Default The forgotten 6.5

Im thinking of the 6.5 Remington mag . As a young guy I remember seeing the Remington 600s 6.5 and 350 mags.with laminated stocks and the ribs .They were definitely an eye catcher .I never owned one in 6.5 but did a 350 . My friend owned a 6.5 mag

The 6.5 mag is a fine cartridge but there really is no good action for the case length . In a short action bullets have to be seated deep. And if going to a long action one may a well choose 6.5-06

One of my first guns as a kid was a 6mm Rem in a Model 7. Another great cartridge that is all forgotten.

Wish I would have kept it despite the fact I "outgrew" the gun.

My 4th rifle was a 6mm Remington Model 700 BDL Heavy Barrel. It shot pin holes on paper better than any rifle I owned.

I took my share of Deer and Wolves with that unit till it let me down on a harvest,,, I never returned to anything less than 30 cal after that.

Two years ago I shot my first ever 1/4" groups with 3 different 30 cal Remington rifles after waiting 38 years.
Kind of like chasing the shirt-tails of that 6mm.

Oh yes, a walk down memory lane of what was once the shooter,,, now matched by 3 of today's Remmy 700's.

Good times come to those that push the limits.

I had both the 350 mag and the 6.5 mag, wish I still had them both.

The Remington 350 mag that I had I sold around 1980 . The fella I sold it to showed it to me a few years ago and it was still in great shape . I now own an old Ruger m77. I feel it’s a better gun than the 600 but doesn’t have the cool factor look

I remember reading about it and thought it was kinda neat and forgot about it. Got into the guns a bit a few years ago and reading the nosler manual brought back on the to do list.
Couldn't find a factory rifle, almost bought a m77 tang and the bdl's could only find in the states and both were too much money so I built one. Found 4-5 boxes factory ammo and 100 or so brass first so I could feed it.

Was just gonna rebarrel a m700 xcr ss but got a bit of a bug and it turned out to be a 700ti, mcm edge stock, ron smith gain twist fluted barrel, basix trigger, ptg metal, ext mag box etc!
Also had to take up reloading so that's been interesting, I can get some decent speeds - 100gr ballisitic tips to 3600+! my hunting loads are 130 accubond or swift s2 at 3150ish. Have lots o powder and bolits now and want to work up a 127lrx load and have some old 140 TBBC that would like to try on moose or a bear.

I like it, its like a mini 7 rem mag.

I know the old Mohawk
I have a 673 guide. In 308 though
The 6.5 rem mag is interesting

Here is a pic of the 308 Mohawk while out on loan this fall. Not my bull ... I wish

I built a 6.5 rem mag last year and used a m700 long action and hardy carbon fibre barrel.
It shoots very nice.
I have a soft spot for the 6.5 and 350 rem mag and started collecting brass and ammo 25 years ago.
Over the years I have picked up a m600 in 6.5 and 350, a like new m673 in 350 and a rugger m77 in 350 rem mag.

I have been contemplating the 6.5 Remington magnum as well. Biggest issue is trying to locate ammo/brass. Nosler manufactures 6.5 Remington Magnum but looks like limited runs as they currently state out of stock on their website.
