Default Gov. Bevin (KY) Responds to Alleged Hypocrisy

Finally someone with a little common sense (or uncommon as it seems today) maybe?

Default excellent dialogue

Well worth the listen!
So many times I find myself struggling to defend our "gun culture" and this guy just nailed it! A gun is a tool. Everyone is so busy looking for that silver bullet that will fix society and the focus keeps getting put on guns.
Our society is now full of single parent homes, and social media has major impact on all of our lives.
Fact is, our kids idolize video game characters, and television heros, where they reap rewards for killing the other guy. In their world, problems are being solved with a gun, and the parents are happy to have a game screen to babysit their kids. We now live in a world where both parents need to work to make ends meet, or just sometimes to get ahead a bit, and the result has been parents out of touch with their kids. It is truly unfortunate that the teachers of today are now doing more than just shaping our kid's minds, they are ultimately parenting them because they dont get that critical interaction at home.
Sad times, and they cant be cured by eliminating guns from the picture. The gun has just become a popular scape-goat for society.

I agree re the silver bullet and how a law is not the solution. I agree that there has been a change in the culture.

However, I think he missed the true reasons behind the change.

Porn and video games, abortion and assisted suicide, social media?

What about television and movie violence? How about the continual stream of violence peddled by the media?

Regardless, these exist around the world and the US is not the only nation to experience the techno shift. The US does however seem to have an awful lot of murders and school shootings compared to other developed nations.

There has been a "shift" but not sure he has the correct cause.

Just my 2 cents.

Default Cultural

I think the USA has a unique culture. They are a violent people. Rightly or wrongly I am convinced that if you took Canada's gun laws and put them in place in the USA nothing would change.

There nation was founded on an armed revolution. They had a violent civil war. They battled with numerous Indian tribes as there people moved from the east coast to the west. Pioneers battled each other for land and resources. They helped save the world in 2 wars. They are now the largest military in the world and have the role of the worlds police force. They are very good at armed conflict.

Unfortunately this has some consequences in a society. I think the best way to solve the problem if you are a citizen in a nation like this is to be well armed and well trained with a firearm yourself.

I am thankful that the USA exists as a nation. I admire there countries freedoms and constitution. I wish Canada was as progressive in its gun laws as they are.
The world needs a warrior culture to stand in the way of evil. Canada has benefited from having such a powerful neighbor next door. We get peace security and prosperity and I think we sometimes forget how great of a neighbor the USA is.
