Beaver tail and beans is a bush delicacy in these parts.

Back in the eighties some of the fur buyers bought beaver tails, skinned.

They had the leather made into high value leather products but there wasn't enough demand to keep that segment of the market going so it didn't last long, about ten or twelve years as I recall.

I think the problem was the leather was just not big enough for most potential products.

It's too thin for boot leather and too small for anything more then a knife sheath cover or a wallet.

So, you could skin it out, make beaver tail and beans plus tan the leather and make yourself a killer knife sheath of wallet like no one else has.

I've never tried it, haven't the guts. ROFL I made a funny!

Actually, from what I've been told, it is an acquired taste, one few modern folks would get used to. I hear that they have a very strong Beaver taste and are basically pure fat. YUCK!

I tried tanning one last Fall and ended up with two rock hard chunks of tail that I don't know what to do with.....lol. I found it hard to flesh it down to the leather without putting holes in it. There's a good video on youtube that shows the process. More researching and experimenting is required this year.

I chopped up the tails off 3 beaver I killed over the summer doing damage control . Put the pieces in a 2 litre jar and let stand in the sun and its is now about a third full of oily gooey mess . Should be a good attractant at a coyote bait site .

What you have there would make a jar of Ten Dead Horses seem rather inefective.

How do you use the lure at a baitsite......open the jar and place it somewhere or just smear some on a tree? How much do you use at a baitsite?

I would make a small hole, like a shallow gopher hole, and place a 1/4 cup of stink bait such as this Beaver Tail goo, in the bottom of the hole.

In other words, a dirt hole set, with a leg hold trap.

But I'm pretty sure a guy could do the same thing close to a Coyote trail and then set snares on that trail and get good results.

You could probably put a gob on a low branch and get the same results but it probably would last as long, the birds and mice would clean it up in no time I think.

Im a first timer at this one Dave , but I plan on using it for some dirt hole sets like keg said as well as smear it on brush near a bait site laced with snares .

I've used it already this season cam at sets at farm, made a small hole off to side of main dirt hole and dipped twig in oil then in the hole, just another smell to keep the song dogs working your set and stepping on Mr Bridger #3,i know nube used it in a bucket I believe at one of his wolf bait sites with good results, you could mix this into a chunk or ground bait as well, everything likes a little beaver, cheers Peter

Nothing wrong with BT and beans if it's done up right! Neighbor brought a pot to a pot luck dinner we had last year and that pot was scraped clean by the end of the eating part!

Good stuff right there.
