Default Bait question

Neighbor is asking what bait his 6 year old should be using
when fishing for rainbows in stocked ponds around Calgary.
My guess is worms. Correct? Anything else?
Thanks
Roger

Stocked Rainbows ................. in this order for me .........

1) Velveeta Cheese
2) Shrimp - Raw preferably
3) Power bait dough - sparkle pink and orange
4) fresh raw dough with tuna juice, garlic powder or anything stinky in there.

5) Real bait like worms, minnows, etc....

Seriously - for stockers - in that order - kids will thank you !!!!!

All the above and sometimes corn can be the trick.

What kind of shrimp do you use for fishing? Are they special bait shrimp or grocery store kind?

Cocktail uncooked, cooked if that's all they have. I find small pieces not the complete shrimp lasts better.

Hands down the most effective trout bait for stocked trout. No doubt in my mind whatsoever. There has rarely been a bait that will out-fish it in my experience. It's a go-to for me.

Keep it cold and cut into small cubes just large enough to cover a small sz10-12 hook OR you can mold it into a ball - but the cubes seem to hold up better.

Cast it in, attach a bell to the line and let it sit.

This bait, of course, melts off as the greasy cheese sits in water, and it's certainly not a bait you would cast as it's fragile, but it brings them in for a bite and they won't let it go.

If I have to jig or cast bait - it's raw fresh shrimp from the grocery store. Just need a few shrimp cut up into small pieces and it's pretty sturdy.

X2 on the velveeta cheese (needs to be the brick) and the garlic marshmallows. I have found on occasion that some Berkley trout pellets work pretty good. I've heard hatchery trout fish are fed pellets maybe that's why it works or it's the oil
and scent that comes out.
