Default Leupold bx-4 pro guide 8x30 binoculars

anyone seen or use a pair of those small binoculars ? I was thinking about ordering a pair and was wondering any ones thought on them ,got a pair of the leupold tioga bx-2 10x42 now and find them a little heavy and the 8x30 will shave 10 ozs from the tioga @ 28 oz . Moose hunting bino's in the woods most of the time use on foot
Regards

Default choices

8 x 30 binos will get dim fast in low light, good for football games, not a good choice for a hunting bino

I think if you buy alpha you can be very happy with 8x30's. However some of the high end 8x30's weigh in the low 20 oz range. You need to pay attention to eye relief as well on the smaller bino's.

Any decent roof prism bino in the 8x40 range is so close in weight and size it's almost a mute point. If you are spending under 500 I wouldn't go with a 30mm objective for hunting. If you're really counting ounces and are ok with spending 1k plus, I'm guessing you can get some really nice 8x30's.

I bought a little set of Diamond Back HD 8x32's for cheap compact glass on holidays, they seem ok, but they are no where near a set of old monarch 8x40's and not much lighter.

I had a set of Leupold 10x42 BX-2 Mojaves that stopped focusing in one eye. I sent them in last fall and they replaced them with the 10x42 BX-4 Pro Guides. Man, what a difference in light transmission.

I can't comment on the 8x30s, but the BX-4 was far better than the BX-2s.

groan. The 8x30 will have an exit pupil of 3.75 and a 10x40 will have an exit pupil of 4. Not a huge difference.

The remaining factors concerning light transmission can apply equally to any size of binocular.

These are very good binoculars and light transmission will NOT be an issue.

Personally, I hunt better with something like an 8x30 because movement isn't as magnified and compactness is valuable when actually out hunting.

As I get older the optics become more valuable. I have 4 sets of binos but I only use my Swarovski’s.
