Hands down the most effective trout bait for stocked trout. No doubt in my mind whatsoever. There has rarely been a bait that will out-fish it in my experience. It's a go-to for me.
Keep it cold and cut into small cubes just large enough to cover a small sz10-12 hook OR you can mold it into a ball - but the cubes seem to hold up better.
Cast it in, attach a bell to the line and let it sit.
This bait, of course, melts off as the greasy cheese sits in water, and it's certainly not a bait you would cast as it's fragile, but it brings them in for a bite and they won't let it go.
If I have to jig or cast bait - it's raw fresh shrimp from the grocery store. Just need a few shrimp cut up into small pieces and it's pretty sturdy.
