Default Ice Shack Anchoring

Hey,
Working on a new ice shack for this winter. It’s a wood shack with stove etc and a metal skid. It sits a bit higher to allow it to be hauled on a car hauler type trailer. Question is, do others use some kind of anchoring system when leaving their shacks on the ice all winter? The skids on this shack are narrower than the 8’ wide shack so concerned it could be tipsy with all the winds we seem to get lately.
Ideas? Pics from years past?

Thanks!

I think if you're worried about tipping, just put some blocks under the corners.

Saw a guy last winter who just drilled a few holes, tied a knot on the end of a rope and dropped it in the water, other end to the shack. Once it froze it held.
Only bad part is the rope left behind when you cut free to move the shack

Probably the same shack I saw ............ on gull lake.

Guy did exactly as you described.

So simple it boggled my mind .... rednecks are smarter than they look ....

I saw one guy anchor his canvas tent on the ice by drilling some holes around it, putting some tree limbs into them, then tying off to those when they were frozen in. Leaves only the “natural” material in the lake that way I guess.

Don't worry so much about anchoring as keeping the shack from freezing INTO the ice.

If the shack is there for a few weeks, all it takes is some flood ice to happen, and your shack becomes very well anchored. Try to put the shack onto some boards or pallets to keep it separated from the ice.

A weight on ice can also sink into the ice. Just put a nickle on an ice cube in your freezer, and come back in a few weeks and see where the nickle now is.

If you ever want pain, try chipping out a frozen in ice shack so you can get it off the ice. Alot less hassle if the boards freeze in and the shack pulls off from the boards.
