We seen elk had no tag. They are not in the big herds. Seen lots of 2 and 3 cow groups. They are going on and off base alot. No snow hinders tracking. Annex or the Js is your best bet right now

I dropped off.my 250 mule deer nov 2 got results nov 19.
Last year we were there for muzzloader and my.nephew got his results mid to late March.

Do you need to save proof of sex and species on a Wainwright deer, or does it not matter since the tag is good for any make/model?

Frankly, I don’t even want to know the results as we’ll probably have eaten a good chunk of it then. I had a fork horn mulie test positive in 2017 on the base. We chucked it only to get a phone call a month later that the results were wrong and it wasn’t positive. They did give us a replacement tag for the following year but we didn’t go back up

Thx, we had a antlerless moose tag as well. Someone had just harvested the cow and we came across the calf up in peregrine west. Cut it up today. I don’t think I’ve ever butchered nicer meat. Was able to get a good shot on it that didn’t wreck any meat

Dad and I are P13 and planned on doing it next year for first rifle but are highballing it now....

we figure why give up the last 2 days of November of our northern whitetail hunt where we have a chance at a 170”+ buck to chase around does and small bucks at wainwright that have a high rate of cwd in them.

Gonna wait until the numbers improve until we consider applying.

Just my opinion but I would definitely consider holding off. Was very unimpressed with deer numbers and age class during my hunt this year. Still a great time checking out a new area, but never saw anything I’d even consider shooting. So much thick cover I’m sure there’s some big guys kicking around still, just gotta get lucky. We glassed from high points at first light and very few deer moving in the open. Moose on the other hand are everywhere.

Any updates on kill numbers for elk, moose and deer ? I was up there for the first 3 days and managed to get a decent 5 by 5 bull elk , in three days all I seen was one moose , 2 mule does , and 5 bull elk only got a shot at the one … and actually seen that 7 by 7 that was on the trail
Cam pics at orientation … man I keep replaying how I wish I was a little faster on the draw for him , but he was smart , he was gone by the time I realized what was happening . Lol . Oh well I still had fun , it was my first time on the base . Having not seeing any deer makes me rethink the deer hunt . But for elk I’ll go back . Haha . Cheers .

I just got home from the Rifle 3 deer hunt. Conditions are difficult (noisy & no snow) and all in the favour of the deer.



I was there last year at this same time for moose and as a helper on deer. Conditions last year were very high snow and very cold -- I suspect a major die off took place as the areas that did have snow (south side of circle) had little to no tracks.

Day walked a few areas I normally hunt - no sign -- moved to a new to me location 1 saw a WTD and 2 CM. Got a young fellow with 2 young ladies on the one cow which they got.

Day 2 - did 5 rattling stands - missed a WTB, got a WTB and had another deer in the bush walk around me

Day 3 - Saw a WTB at distance, no luck other than a snort in the bush behind me on one of the 3 stands I did

in C3 saw 1WT buck medium in bush n Mule buck 3x3 in Annex + 2MD doe

then 9 other Wt doe n fawns in Cs ..

fun hunt saw lots of yotes

a Weasel with the Sharptail,s feeding everywhere or sunning themself,s

saw 4 cow Moose ..

Hello everyone

I was one of the lucky elk hunters this season in wainwright, I shot the third elk that was taken. Was there in 2019 and spent every day including prim weapon season and never saw an elk in a legal area. Feel pretty fortunate that’s for sure. Waiting on CWD results (hopefully negative) as I have already lost my MD buck to it this season. This was my 18th time hunting on base and have loved it each and every time. I have gone 4 times as a helper and that’s ALMOST as fun. If anyone has the final elk numbers please share as I am curious. The purpose of this post was to say a massive thank you to the military, F&W and biology staff. You are all truly first class and I hope to hunt the base many more times. Happy New Years to you

I was there in 2019 hunting bull moose and found lots of elk including a nice bachelor group. No tag? See them all. I was there for a week this year with an elk tag and saw them twice but no good shot opportunities. Oh well. Was a fun hunt as usual. Final elk number was 14 (13 bulls, 1 cow)
