Default what are your walleye tactics through the ice?

going to try for some walleye tomorrow, what do you guys generally use with success? mostly just use a jighead with a smelt but would like some other tricks up my sleeve, so let's hear em.

good luck.

For walleye I wouldn;t be using a smelt. Go smaller, as in a minnow.

Default re

The hardest part of catching walleye through the ice is finding the damn things, other than that a jig head and a minnow is going to be the best way to catch em.

Default Yup...

Ditto on what BK said...I used to ice fish for them a lot. Usually you need to move around quite a bit (which also means drilling lots of holes) until you locate some, although you do get the odd day when the bite is on. As far as presentations, small minnows on orange/charteuse whistler jigs/rattling jigs, crippled herring, swedish pimple, buzz bomb and walleye flyer. I always replace the stock trebles w/ones that are better quality. Whatever you use, throw on a stinger hook to increase your chances. Also helps to have a stike indicator on your rod tip as well. Good luck and post your results.
