Default Buying a Quad

Looking at new machines. Wondering in your experience do dealers have wiggle room to move on price somewhat similar to what vehicle dealers do? Have you negotiated a winch or upgraded tires or any other perks in your deal?

*not looking for suggestions on what to get*

Thumbs up

yes...lots of wiggle room if they want your business...I got two helmets/goggles and a quad box thrown in on one deal.....I told them If we liked it we would be back to get another...a year later I walked in and he said let me guess same deal....yup....done.

I bet you could find some smoking deals on stuff only a year or two old.

I’d be taking this route. Kind of sad to be taking advantage of the times, but at the same time your actually helping someone out.

Default ATVs

I bought a Polaris Ranger from the dealer in Edson last fall. He beat the Edmonton dealers by $3500 on a 35k machine and threw in 2 belts and 2 oil change kits. They were great to deal with.

Default Finding the Opposite

Been shopping for a Honda Pioneer 1000 and the sales folks are saying they are flying off the shelf. Couldn't care less if I was ready to buy today or not. I didn't. Will keep looking.

I was in at Martin Motorsports south location checking in on a part I have coming. Mostly seadoos, limited atv's on the floor. I was told due to the plants shutting down in the states etc, not much stock went out before covid and now the dealers are left with what they had that was already shipped.

Default Buying a Quad

Odd as it sounds, my dealer told me that they’ve sold a record amount of atvs this spring. There’s is definitely a few hundred wiggle room if the dealer wants your business

When I bought mine, I called every dealer that sold what I wanted within a 200km radius, told them I was prepared to purchase today and asked them to give me their best price with all the accessories that I want included. The difference in prices between the highest and lowest was $2000. Highest was $12,500, lowest was $10,500.

I’d suggest doing the same thing to find out what kind of wiggle room there is for your particular machine.

Daryl

Some good feedback, thanks guys!

I do think dealers might be low on stock but that's hard to say. Looking at the new Honda Rubicon 520. I'm usually a buy second hand in good shape, not have payments and keep my stuff for a long time but this model is just released for 2020 so finding one used is unlikely.

my experiences are consistent with several dealers

Cycle Works was great when i bot the kids a Polaris quad. They all got helmets

Honda Extreme sold me a quad and took a decent $ off

Martin Motorsports south gave my partner decent $ off her sled

They ALL can do it. Its a matter IF they will do it..

Just be reasonable. Nice people get treated better than arseholes

There are some very good deals to be had right now at most dealerships. I’d be asking for a free winch.

Depends on the dealer. Riverside Honda in St Albert is booking service work 3 weeks out. They are so busy they can hardly keep up and they jacked up their shop rates. Motorcycles and ATVs are flying out the door faster than they can get stock in. I know this isn't true at some of the small town dealers, but I am betting Riverside isn't giving away much on what they are selling. I do know they have been buying stock from other dealers.

Guys with Covid-19 I am afraid we are in for a "New World Order". Unless you are a trapper a Quad or Sled is not in the 'Need" category for anyone. When most Banks and population finally conclude the Western World is in a real mess you better have cash in your pocket to buy the remaining Toys.
Trumps election BS will not save us from a major recession, no 'V' recoveries in the stars. Save your $$rubles for your real family 'needs'.

Also heard this about boats. Selling like crazy as well. Seems odd as I thought everyone was broke! Maybe using the mortgage deferrals to take on more debt.

True

I was at Honda Extreme yesterday to look at a 700 Pioneer

Lots marked "sold" I had to look at a semi ready Pioneer in the storage area, wrapped in plastic

Im thinking that Pioneer might look pretty good in my yard. Jus sayin.....

Even before Covid, buying toys on credit was a bad idea. That stopped absolutely no one from doing it. Neither will Covid. Many people buy till the bank won't lend them anymore and worry about going Banko only when they lose their job. Covid will not change that much. If all the news were true, we are all broke and only 2 weeks of no pay cheques from insolvency. You would never know it from the amount of stuff flying off the shelves, Bed Bath and Beyond opened two days ago after their Covid shutdown, completely out of stock.

All in, the more stuff opens up, the more it is clear there is a huge pent up demand to buy. Don't know whether it is need, want or boredom but the recovery may not take as long as everyone was worried it would.

Tip:

The ones asking $15,000 for a machine have more wiggle room that the ones stickered at $5,900. Personally I think some are way overpriced vs others, but each of us can pick our own poison.

I bought five different Polaris machines in the last 20 years and every time the dealer had about 10% wiggle room
