Default Friggin Ticks

Went out for a hike towards Jasper today with the kids.

My one daughter said "hey dad you have a spider on your neck" I freak becasue id rather fight a bear before I fought a spider. I swipe it off and then she said I was bleeding.

I look at what I smacked off and it was a huge tick, immediately do tick checks. 1st daughter had 1 on her hat and 2 in her ponytail. 2nd daughter had 2 in her ponytail.

They check me, had one on chest, 2 on back, 1 on bck of the neck. Luckily no others bit.

GROSSSSSSSS

Nothing creeps me out more than ticks and spiders.

Thing is we have lived here 15 years and hike this area alot every year and have never had ticks let alone this many.

Get permethrin clothing. Apparently good. I don’t think they can label it anti tick in Canada but do in the USA.

I see you can buy a permethrin spray, trying to source it in Canada.

It was disgusting how bad the ticks were. Amazingly enough I never found a single one on the dog, we also use advantix on him monthly in the summer

Can you spot Boe? He has good camouflage

Watch that bite site you don't want to get Lyme disease. My wife and a friend both have it and they both suffer all kinds of aches and pains. I am not sure if they will treat you with the antibiotics just because of a bite but wouldn't hurt to check.

You might want to carry an empty container like a pill bottle with you. If you get bit, pop the tick into the container, label it and store it in the freezer. If you develop any symptoms later, you've got the suspect for testing.

You should see if there is any thing you need to do as you were bit. Ticks actualy carry a whole mess of diseases. Did you keep the ticks I know a lady who collects them and sends them to the provincial lab for testing. If you private message me I can give you her number if you like.

http://www.outdoorsmenforum.ca/showthread.php?t=218414

This is very serious and I will continue to bump threads and add comment on the subject.....

There is a ton of personal and pet information here on AO.... simply search; ticks or lymes disease.

Play safe.

I follow that thread, I actually started it LOL

ticks are nothing to mess with, Lyme disease is not taken serious enough by the medical community.

When my daughter had one on her scalp that was fully engorged years ago the doctors here literally refused to send it for testing. My wife found a lady that studied ticks and diseases at a university and we sent it to her, she gladly accepted.

Use deet for repelling ticks
I wouldn’t use permetherin. That is a insecticide that is for used for killing a broad range of insects

Deet is safe

Hate the little bastards, they creep me out more than bear lol.

My buddy and I were in Bob Creek yesterday - he pulled 7 off of his clothing and I had 3 on mine- gross.

They were all wood ticks (like the one in the picture at the top of the thread) - everything I've read has said they do not carry lyme disease.

Deer ticks (or Black legged ticks) do however.

Either way, I HATE even seeing those little things

They are known for rocky mountain spotted fever which is nasty and also tick paralysis which could be dangerous.

Exactly, not many things creep me out. Spiders are #1, Ticks are on par with spiders.

nasty

Possums apparently demolish tick populations, maybe introduce those creatures LOL
