I had one years ago. It wasn't made by Rapala. I tried it once or twice and that was the end of that. In the garbage it went. It was inaccurate because of line slippage and I found it did cut down on casting distance also. I have not tried one since and rely on the counters on the downriggers for an idea of depth. I have no doubt that the counter you have is probably designed better than the one I tried. I just had a bad experience with the one I bought and won't try them again.

Default Line counter

I purchased a Fenwick rod with the line counter built into the rod not a clip on a couple years ago. The idea was, use them with your bait casters if you all ready had them. I use mine for bottom bouncing for walleye. Very accurate on the line out but you can't cast them and expect the counter to be correct. This set up will also work for planer boards. I like it but the line speed out when lowering is a little slower because of the friction of the line counter.

Thats my 2 cents worth.
Good luck everone opening day, Travers is Sunday May 8th. Looking forward to getting out in the newer, bigger boat.

Default line counter

I used mine lat year trolling for lake trout. It was really good for controlling lure depth. I don't know why anyone would use one for casting though??
Mine held up well as I used it for a week of fishing and caught lots of fish using it. The ten bucks it cost saved me form buying a reel with a line counter built into it.

onlyfor trolliing or uses in deep water. don cast with it. it reduces casting ability and isnt too accuratefor it.
