There is a magazine out there called "Barry Mitchell's Alberta Fishing Guide" that will be of some help to you. It lists most of Alberta's fishable water bodies along with a description of how to get there and what you might catch.

There are lots of places to fish around Calgary. The most obvious one is the Bow River, which is popular for flyfishing. Kananaskis also has a lot of good lakes to fish for trout. Some of the reservoirs to the south and east of Calgary hold good numbers of walleye and pike. Chain Lakes west of Nanton is popular as it is stocked with trout. Mclean Pond out by Bragg Creek is also a good place for beginners as it too is stocked with trout.

What kind of fishing do you prefer and what do you want to catch?
