Default new wildlife corridor hwy 22 chain lakes area

Anyone hear of a new wildlife corridor starting just north of chain lakes going south for about 45 km on hwy 22. A friend was down that way and said there new signs up stating it was now a wildlife corridor. Is this true?

There are signs for it but it has yet to be announced as a corridor like other corridors with 1 mile buffer zones, I doubt it will be classified the same.

I thought it was 400 M. from the center of the road. ?

Roadkill connoisseurs and vehicle repair shops will benefit from this.

There have been a few real nasty collisions with elk herds in the dark on the south end of hwy 22. Lots of deer too.

There not going to be happy until the whole area is under the same type of regulations as Banff Park.
I would like to know what other changes they have on the books

Those are primarily large land owners in that area, with political pull, is my perverted observation.

Am I missing the point or are some people concerned that they won't be able to hunt within 400 meters of a very busy highway ?

It's no different than any other busy highway in Alberta, just another rule you need to be aware of. Mostly private property, so shouldn't even be an issue.

More a pain in the butt now you have to carry a gun or bow case to cross through it to go hunt.

As someone who had permission on 4 sections in Millarville, one of which ran right along Hwy-22, I would be disappointed...

But I bet most people here who support the corridor don't or can't hunt the area, so their opinion is likely jaded.

Chain Lakes from N to S is roughly 10 km and is all a Prov Park on the W side of Hwy 22. Moose, elk and deer all use that area as a travel corridor. I've seen cars (not trucks) of out of season hunters scouting for elk on the hills E side of the highway. I support the corridor and it's not because I can't hunt the area.......much of the area is a Park for cryin' out loud. There is lots of land to hunt on......the corridor removes such a small portion of huntable land it's not worth bickering over.

The corridor will be 45 km in length so it is not a small portion And only about half the lake is prov park on west side.
