Default Blackfoot Cooking Lake PRA Survey

I just got emailed the link to the survey. After the first few questions I just ended up giving neutral answers unless the questions came off as pro hunting. Definitely some very biased questions on it. Parts of it made me think the University is pushing to have Blackfoot closed to hunting. Questions like " Do animals have feelings?" Every mention of firearms comes off as bad. Since the only people that need to register to use the Blackfoot area are hunters there definitely is some bias as only the hunters can be directly emailed the link to the survey

Anyways before I turn this into a huge rant...... anyone who wants to take this survey should do so with caution

Probably best to just delete it if you get the email.

Thanks for the heads up. Who sent you the survey?

This was sent out by AEP Alberta Parks <AEP.AlbertaParks@gov.ab.ca>

Apparently the survey is done by the The Human Dimensions Research Lab, Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport and Recreation at the University of Alberta.

I agree with ghostguy6, there were some very odd (and repetitive) questions in there.

Some very odd questions indeed. I don't think deleting the survey is the best option if hunters want to continue to enjoy the Blackfoot. Questions like if big game hunting was closed in the Blackfoot where else would you hunt? Seem to elude they are pondering the closure of hunting in there to reduce conflict with the non-hunter recreational users, which I rarely see during the hunting season anyway.

My comment and suggestion at the end was to increase the bow season from Sep 1 to Oct 31 to enhance the bow hunting experience and opportunity. Certainly reducing or closing hunting in the Blackfoot would be a crying shame. Wonder how they would manage the ungulate population then in an enclosed area......never mind I think I know....

I had a tag there about 25 years ago. I wonder how many tags are allocated and the Harvey amount nowadays. It’s a tough go in there unless you got a horse maybe now with e bikes if they are allowed.

I was only given the option to select one type of hunt, upland, waterfowl or big game. I hunt all 3 although realistically I never plan on tagging a deer there. I wonder if there are different questions depending on what hunting type you select? I selected upland just because I can have the dog off leash when I go.

Same here, I picked big game but I hunt waterfowl and upland lots to so thought that you could only focus on one of those for the survey was odd.
Not the best laid out survey IMO.

I also got sent this survey. And looks to me some anti hunting group must be putting on pressure to have hunting shut down on the Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area.

That's the impression I got as well.
