Do you need to register Bear rugs before sell them?

Info above re tanned is accurate. A raw bear hide can be given away or sold to a registered fur buyer. I am not sure about selling a raw hide to a non-registered fur buyer, you would have to call F and W for that one.

Bezz, there is no shortage of people who want the hides. It is work to take them off so they are in good shape for mounting, but if you like bear meat, the hide shouldn't slow you sown. Personally, I hate bear meat, nearly as much as I dislike goose. I only hunt bears now if there is someone that wants the meat or hide. Still like hunting them, or participating in the hunt. They are an interesting animal.

From the trapping regs. From how I read it black bear hides don't need to be tanned to sell.

Alberta anyone may sell the followingrocessed (tanned or otherwise permanently preserved, but not dried, salted or frozen) skins of fur-bearing animals;
black bear skins, provided they have been taken lawfully (black bear claws may only be sold if they remain attached to the whole skin);
the skins of most animals, including skunk and raccoon, for which a licence is not required;
unskinned beaver carcasses harvested outside the beaver trapping season; or
all parts of lawfully taken furbearing animals, other than the unprocessed skin.

That sounds really good, actually!

I keep asking the kids if they want to try some, should we connect on one this year... They aren't too keen on it.

From Incredigirl, it's a definite "No!"

Any meat you have to cook well done is not something I am fond of. Now technically anything medium or more on bear is fine, and making stews etc endures it is well done so another good way to cook it. We used to make large pots of it with the potatoes, carrots etc and freeze it in single serving packs for dog food. It smelled great cooking, and we even tried it a couple of times, tasted fine but stew is another dish I am not fond of.

That's the great thing about ground meat. You can cook it well done, add a bunch of spices and add it to any recipe that calls for ground meat. We grind all of our bears and use it in this way.
