Wow......I'm cheap. Laminate blued Mossberg 4 X 4 in .270 win. Leupold Rifleman 3-9 x 40 scope and rings. Sling, bi-pod...all together new was about $1200

Remington 870 Express super mag (black synthetic) 12 gauge and sling. $375 new

Savage Mark II .22 rimfire with Bushnell 3 - 9 x 40 scope....about $300 with a brick of ammo.

As others have said, you can get into it with a $500 - $600 package. A good knife and binoculars. Of couse your PAL and hunters ed course if you plan on hunting. You don't really need camo, but everything helps. If someone was on an extremly tight budget, they could take the hunters ed and go with someone that has a PAL and is willing to mentor them. That way they could borrow a rifle and see if they are really going to like it.

I've spent $300 on an old hammer gun, and $4,000 on a SXS 28, all in the same week.
I don't much look at the price when I'm buying!
it's not the guns so much as all the hand loading components and stuff that goes along with them - I jsut spent $1,000 on my boat, and I only use it for huntng and fishing for the most part.
decoys, calls, cases , scopes and binos, and cool stuff like rosewood cleaning rods and wool mops and leather ammo boxes keep me busy!!

My last rifle was a Browning (of course) .222, rings $65.00, scope $750.00.
Prior to that was a T-bolt .17hm, before that a T-bolt .22

Last non-restricted rifle was a Sako M78 in .22 Hornet with a leupy 3-9x40. I bought it used from an AO member for 900.

Last restricted rifle was a S&W M&P 15-22 for 565.00 new. I put an Aimpoint CompM4s on it for 725.00 and 3 spare mags for 20.00 each. Just as a side note it is silly that is rifle is restricted but I guess the good ole gubment knows more than I do

When talking first rifles I always suggest people start with a 10/22 because they are fun a cheap to shoot and if you find you don't use it someone will buy it for sure.

Half of my rifles are bought new, the other half are lightly used. Optics are also 50/50 new/used with the most recent purchases being all used stuff. From now on, and from about 2 setup purchases ago, everything is used as long as I can find what I'm looking for - save about 20/30%

Default Last / next

Last gun I bought was Stevens 512 Gold Wing 28 ga O/U, around $695 at Wholesale Sports on sale.

The next gun I buy will be a .25-06 (exact rifle will depend on whether I'm working or not).
