Default does ammo ever get to old?

Got a great offer on some old 16 and 20 gauge ammo (free) so I took it. Canuck, Imperial and Upland shells the person got them sometime in the 80's, some have Hudson Bay price tags on them, so the question is are they to old to be shot. All are various types of plastic cases so I am assuming they would be safe, but I would like advice from people more experienced. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Take them to a gun show. You might be surprised what you get for this old stuff.

Provided they have been stored in a cool, dry location, they should be good to shoot or as others have mentioned, take them to a gun show and see what you can get for them.

I've stuff from the 40s, 50s and 60s that still goes bang when it is supposed to.

you have to watch that old powder..you have no idea how it was stored specially shotgun powder it may not fire..you can check around the primer for corrosion,,as well squeeze the plastic on the hull for brittleness..I believe plastic hulls started being used in the early 60s??
