Default coyote stretcher question

i am copying the shape and design of a buddies coyote stretcher. it is made from 3/4" boards like they have been for years. i am using 5/4" (deck boards) for mine. it will mean the skin will have a little wider "edge" when dried. is this ok or should i stick to the old way (3/4" fence boards)?
will it make a difference to a fur buyer?

Yes, it'll make a difference IMO. NAFA wants the pelts 1/2" to 5/8" wide and even using 1" fence boards is slightly wider than that, but acceptable. I think that 5/4" deck boards for your drying boards will be just a little too wide though.

You can pick up 1" x 4" spruce boards to make split boards for relatively cheap. That is what I used to make mine and they work very well. My recommendation is to use those.

thanks for that info. damn. it was a lot more work making it out of 5/4" deck boards. much easier using 1" fence boards which are really 3/4" anyways. back to the drawing board.

If you get a couple of 1" x 4" boards 6' long to make a split board to dry coyote pelts, you are welcome to drop by and trace the outline from a store bought one that I bought (if there's not a yote drying on it). I bought one and I made 5 others by doing that. There is not really too much to take off with a jig saw, sand and secure and making one only takes about 20 minutes.

Is this for the yote pelt that you have now?

Waterninja-

You could plane down the thickness of boards you made.
