What year is your model 70? That's a different trigger than the current manufacturing model isnt it?

What would you do on a 14 day hunt?

That is a late 90’s Model 70 with a “real” model 70 trigger. :-)

Wipe it off. I’ve heard blued steel melts in the rain, but so far I’ve yet to see that.

Yes, if I get water on my rifle and am worried about it under the stock line I would take the Allen key that fits the guard screws and beat a moose to death with it.

That Winchester model 70 action is sweet. I have 2 PGWdti's with that action (copied, of course). Buttery smooth, tight lock-up, almost zero maintenance, and positive ejection (always).

My hunting partner had a blued Tikka for years and years, hunted in the rain many times, including sheep hunting. Quite a bit of surface rust developed and had been removed so there were spots in the bluing. He had never once removed the stock, I said he better take a look. Pulled it apart and it was all factory perfect. If the metal under the stock is well oiled, or in his case factory oiled, there isn't much danger even on a long wet hunt.

And Chuck... that looks like Leupold 6x36mm

If it is, you have good taste. My favorite no nonsense, lightweight hunting scope.

Damn. You are chuck Norris. Props man.

I usually just run mine to the point of exhaustion then strangle them but that's just me. I'm pretty buff.

It is, and I agree. It’s a great scope.

This doesn’t surprise me. Most of the trouble comes from the metal being exposed enough to have the oil rub off exposing the metal underneath. Under the stock line this doesn’t happen.
