Default Fly Fishing in PEI?

I am going to a wedding in PEI in August, and am wondering if I should take my fly rod? I've done a little research on the fishing there, but was wondering if anyone had some firsthand knowledge?

Thanks.

The creek that flows through the Anne of Green Gables golf course and national park has nice sized 8-10 inch brookies in it. The wife had to come back and haul my butt away once my eyes spotted them when crossing a bridge.

If only I had my 4 weight fly rod.

So I would say most creeks and ponds have brookies at least. Some maybe bass. Ocean fishing from shore...not worth it.

There can be a lot of Mackerel and Pollock around in August.

They are often at your feet if you can get on a rocky point, weir, jetty etc.

Super fun.

Just ask some locals.

Rainbows and Salmon are also a possibility in august.

I'd take a bigger rod.

Track down some guides on the island for more/better info. Only fished there a couple times myself.

Smile The island is flat.

The streams are slow moving and brackish, sea trout were my favorites, and they were nothing like Bow river Rainbow.

Mackerel are lots of fun off the wharf or with a guide on a Cape Island boat. You can buy Lobster very cheap and scallops too. Try to pick out the female lobsters they have the roe in them.

I think a # 4 rod with sparsely tied dry flies will work fine. You may need to wade and the bottom is soft. Marshy banks too. The brookies have lots more red on them than here.

Have fun, and meet the people, you'll love it.

Salmon or trout?

You can get a local guide really cheap!!!!

I used to flyfish the Morell River and the Bonshaw River. Morell River will see a lot of people on it, and it is a much bigger piece of water. I used to fish Bonshaw a lot, and I was almost always by myself.

Granted, I haven't fished there since 2000

Shoot me a PM with your travel dates and where you are staying. I'm a transplanted islander and may be able to help. I head back every summer for a few weeks of fishing.

Enjoy
