I am spot and stalk bear hunting for the first time. Havent seen a bear yet up here but theres still lots of snow and things havent started greening up just yet. Haven't seen even a track yet so I'm hoping they just aren't up in force yet.

Best time for spot and stock is May long weekend . Any later and grass is green in the bush and they don't need to come out any more .
Any earlier than may long weekend only some of the cutlines have green grass and clover for them t eat .

Couple friends and I were out for a tour on the quads yesterday. Trapper Leas cabin to SW of Swan Hills. Back to the cabin on the Northside of the highway. 110 kms, rode lots of pipelines and powerlines, not one bear seen, no fresh poop. Very little green grass yet. Very dry out there. Good luck to the bear hunters.

Dandelions are popping up now. Pipeline right aways get lots of sun and the lions and green stuff grow fast....worth checking.

No more baiting for me for years now, I wait until it greens up a big and spot and stalk, for me it's more about getting out hunting in the spring with my buddy, we're getting older and the time in the field is way more important than the harvest, we never got out last spring but plan to head out it in a couple weeks, if I do take one you can bet he will be big or he will keep walking.

Same here - just love getting out with my friends and family and am holding out for a nice big juicy one.

Baits been up in saddle hills for a week now and no activity.. still snow in the bush in areas. Should be any day now the bears will be out of the dens and wandering. I suspect they aren’t travelling far from the dens with -2 temps at night still.

Well got extremely lucky this year and took a nice boar this last Sunday! Usually I don't expect to see much for bears this time of year since nothing is green.

The family and I we're up at the farm setting beaver traps and went out for an evening drive. Wife spotted a bear in an oat field, I hopped out and made a run for it since he was moving quite quickly. Turns out he was just on his way to the dinner buffet! Found him laying in a pile of uncut oats. Got to about 100 yards and he wouldn't give me a clear shot after waiting about 5mins. So I started walking towards him thinking no harm if it doesn't work out.

Wouldn't luck have it he gives me a clear shot and I made it count. Gave him two good follow up shots for good measure!PXL_20230424_024107886.jpgPXL_20230424_024140028.MP.jpgIMG_20230425_142315.jpg

I'll be taking the new boom stick for a hike on Monday. Might be a touch early but it'll be good to stretch the legs and retrain the eyeballs to look for critters.

Colour phase is the goal.

That's a great bear Josh, I've seen a couple around here that size but not had a Crack at one yet. Congrars
