Default Non "baitfish" bait for pike

Gonna go canoeing on the glenmore for pike. Can't use frozen minnows, so what bait should I use?

You can use smelts or herring as they aren't considered "baitfish"

I agree.

I've caught far more Pike on spoons, crank baits and spinners than I ever have with dead minnows anyway.

True, but the percentage of big pike that I catch on dead baits vs lures is far greater. That said, if baitfish aren't allowed I wouldn't toe the line. Spoons, spinner baits, and rattle baits are pretty darn effective.

A new lure I stumbled on this year is a spoon called Wordens Worry, its made by Lucky Strike. I'm mostly a Len Thompson guy when it comes to spoons but Ive been having awesome luck with these things.

Worms, leeches, trout dough, chicken liver anything greasy that puts scent in the water. Minnow shaped scented plastics could be an alternative as well.
