Default Eating crow.

It happens every once in a while.

I swore I would never own a WSM. But I have relented (thanks to a trade with another nice board member) and now own a LH Model 70 7mm WSM. What do you know but that it feeds slick, even empties for heavens sake!

A McMillan EDGE and new bottom metal should arrive in a weeks time which should put this thing 3 ozs over 7lbs scoped and some gunsmith might cut an inch off the barrel as well. Should be a slick do everything hunting rig.

I've never had a feeding problem with any of the WSM's I've owned(3) I only own 1 now, 300 wsm 180 Accubonds @ 3000 fps and I can get .5moa (5 shots)
I want a really good shooter to shoot a couple groups to see what it can really do.
Nice looking rig by the way

Nice rig!

It is all good....the only things shorter than tempers around here is our memories.....

You sure like the 7mm's......for some reason I have never owned one in any chambering and I have never really wanted to.....

What am I missing out on??

x2.yep darn nice rifle. i also have never owned a 7 mm anything and seem to stay clear of them for some reason, i dont even think ive fired one either. i would steer towards the 6.5 s for some reason if i got a calibre like those ,so i would stay on Cats good side. dunno ,wierd i guess, i definatley wouldnt get a 7mm rem mag, everybodys got one, like the 270,haha.

let us know how she shoots when you get her going, and how the recoil is

Nice rifle. I do like the sporter configuration: bought one in .270 to replace one I never should have sold.

What height are those Talleys with that 4x32? Looks ideal.

Now you need a variable power scope, and bipod.

It's a 6X36 in extra lows. Perfection. :-)

Looks like you got a case of pencils to dismember so you can glue the erasers back together for a butt pad.
Tired of the Franken-mashburn-super-duper-mega-seven-no-one-ever-heard-of already?
The 7 wsm and 325 are the only two of the wsm lineup that intrigue me.

Oy. I may have to try that. Would shave a few oz from my steel Warne QD efforts and lower the scopes. Mind you, the low Warne QDs seem to snap pretty much to line of sight when I mount the rifle. Maybe a touch high...

Only trouble is mounting the Aimpoint Micro if I want to switch up.

Nice rifle, Chuck!

My guess is you are going to enjoy your choice of cartridge. And you may be able to get a couple hundred bucks for your stock

What color of McMillan did you order?

you benchmarked the new rifle with factory ammo BEFORE installing the McMillan. Then shoot it again with the new stock. It will be interesting to see what improvements happen.

Say one 5-round group with factory stock, then one 5-round group with the McMillan. Not statistically valid, but a good anecdote nonetheless.

The stock would really be unsaleable unless someone broke theirs. The only SA LH Model 70's were the WSM's unless from the custom shop.

The stock is black.

I lack the patience.

What I could do is develop a load with the new stock and then at some point throw the wood one on and see what happens with a proven load.

All my hunting rifles are 7mm, but I wait till the cartridge is deemed obsolete before utilizing it.

good going chuck.

The 7 is the only WSM I will ever own, I had one in a push/controlled feed M70 a while back, had a 300 WSM in a Kimber......one day I'm sure I'll own another 7WSM.

If it feeds well your over the hump......it's a 280AI in a short action with a great case design.

I'm sure you'll like it.

Lifes full of compromises.
I find that sometimes a compromise feels better than getting what you think you wanted.

Its a great looking gun.
I'm not convinced about the WSMs either but they seem to do the job.

You never know...this could one of those epiphany moments... you might have just found your new love.

Another 7 WSM. Wears an RKS 16-8:1 finished at 22". Set up for 1000 yd bench rest heavy rifle class at 17 lbs. Only problem with the chambering is the terrible brass quality. But to have a rifle chambered in a caliber that Chuck has could be wrong.016.jpg

The plan was to duplicate the 280 AI. I'm shooting for 140's at 3050 to 3100.

I'm really at a loss for words. You have had 280's, 7x57's, 7RM's and of course, the Mashburn. All are good, classic, 7mm cartridges. This one is short and fat. The only word which can describe my emotional state at reading this news is sadness. I think I'll just go down to the basement and sit in the dark. Leeper

Laughing. I am certain that the Mashburn and 7x57 both cursed at me when I stuck this thing in the safe. Trouble is, the Mashburn needs no care and attention. Loads have been perfected and are sitting on the shelf, it hasn't shifted zero from plus 25 to minus 30. It always goes bang, and its utterly reliable. What fun is that. The throat has already started to move after 350 rounds (shocker I know) so it sits awaiting go time.

I needed to tinker wit something so I figured a short fat the perfect candidate. I might have to come over for trigger work though. I adjusted it today but its creepier than Ted Bundy which is beyond my capability (another shocker).

A 280 is the only 7mm gap I have until the STW.
