As in farm equipment? In southern Alberta, B&D Walter are always looking for truck drivers, combiners and seeding crews.

I have heard Cobra in PR hires operators often, contracts to Shell, after a few months, if you work out, Shell hires you .

do any companies take guys without operating experience? Iv been in the oilfield for 7 years, tried many things, was a plant operator for a oilfield disposal plant. Maybe that would help

Iv been trying to get into operating for some time now. I operate a maintenance truck 4 days a week at a Encana site then the other days I run pressure truck. Still cant get on and im good friends with some of the operators and they always ask for me only. Its a tough gig to get into.

You can get a operating job with little oilfield experince.I started operating after 8 months of working in a weatherford pump shop.I've been a field op for 6 years now, just took a job with husky up in rainbow lake its awesome up here.If you start taking your GPO's it will look good on the resume when applying for a job.

Field op jobs are kinda funny how they can be had. Some companies want SAIT/ NAIT tech grads, some want rig/ oilfield services experience, others want previous operating experience, some even look for green hands to train. The biggest part of it all is apply any where and every where. Talk to vac truck drivers, pressure truck operators, chemical sales guys. These folks get around and talk to everyone and will most likely here where there are seats open. I started on a 1 ton maintenance truck, went to work at a plant turnaround got offered an op job. 2weeks later.

Like Timba said, husky @ rainbow lake would be a pretty good gig, from what I understand.

Ive heard kind of the same, if you want a break, apply as far morth as you can first, then after a year or so up in Zama or rainbow, ewc, you can get a job in a more central location.

So your in the field? I worked in the plant there for 9 months. I found Rainbow to be ok to live, it was just so far from anything. It's a good place to get experience as you get to do lots there! Where I presently where there's at least 5 other Rainbow lake Alumni there too.

No you don't need a steam ticket to get an operator job, but I will say this. With all the heavy oil and steam injection oil recovery going on I'd say it will be a good asset to have. I am definatly looking into getting mine so I have some options in the future.
Education is NEVER a bad investment
