Remember to vote on monday
We all must vote on Monday... and keep the following in mind.
For those who pride themselves on their ability to separate needs from wants, and have not been insolvent, Harper has proven to be a competent leader as shown by the following expenses claimed by various MP's. For the most recent 12 month on-line report on MP expenses (excluding salaries) here is a sample:
NDP
Jack Layton $628,913
Olivia Chow $530,304 ( Jack's wife!)
Megan Leslie $502,279
Pat Martin $508,773
LIBERAL
Michael Ignatieff $570,984
CONSERVATIVE
Steven Harper $281,255
Peter MacKay $392,660.
The highest expense claim award goes to Jack Layton , leader of the NDP, followed by Michael Ignatieff, Leader of the Liberals. Just think how much more these two could suck out of taxpayers if they ever got into power! Jack & Olivia (one family) managed to take over one million dollars in expenses in a 12 month period out of the public purse! Jack should ask Sheila Fraser the Auditor General to legitimize these exorbitant "expenses" submitted by NDP members. Don't forget, these expenses are in addition to a MINIMUM of $147,700 per MP in salary dollars.!
These were taxpayers' dollars they used.....yet we don't have enough most weeks to cover OUR expenses!! (and it's getting worse)
VOTE WISELY!!!

I have told all my Supers to take any workers down to the polls on monday morning that want to vote. I'm so ****ed that out of 13 employee's in Calgary, only one of them is planning on voting.
I dont know what he is voting for but am wondering if i can legally pay people to vote( not knowing what they are voting for) or am I able to take those that want time off to vote out to lunch after? I am not sure what the laws are on voting. but am quite preterbed by this type of idiocy.

I don't think you can pay them to vote, but I believe that they are allowed one or two hours paid time to got and vote.

An employee is legally entiteld to vote while on the clock if their work hours do not allow them enough time to vote outside work (I think the standard is 3 consecutive hours). If you are off at 5 and the polls close at 8 your employer does not have to allow you to leave work to vote. I don't think there is anything stopping an employer from allowing their staff to go vote during work hours, even if they have time after.

Is there anyway to make mandatory voting a stipulation of employment? Don't these guys realize what has been sacrificed for them to have the right to vote and choose their own career path? Just a thought, albeit not a practical one.

Apathy runs rampant in our society. Not too many people care about the sacrifices that this country was built on. They're to busy with Facebook and the next episode of Jersey Shore.

EDmonton Strasthcona get out and vote ..
that commie socialist Dipper Linda Duncan out. Dippers will tank the oil industry and that will destroy Alberta much like Special Ed did with his royalty experiment. If you have friends or family in that riding get them out to vote CONSERVATIVE.

I've since had some time to do a little research, and EastCoast ^ is right (Australia). And a number of other countries have compulsory voting as well.
Food for another thread, me thinks!

As I have mentioned before, if you think your vote doesn't mean anything, or if you believe that none of the candidates would be your choice and have decided not to vote at all, try depositing an "unregistered vote" by dropping a blank ballot in the box. Unlike a spoiled ballot, which is marked but improperly, a blank ballot has to be counted and included in the results.
Imagine an entire constituency that had 100% voter turn-out but not one candidate elected! Or more votes cast for no one than for the nobodies. Historical, and an excellent way to turn some heads and change some minds about the wishes of the electorate.
If you already plan to vote, or have already, then good on you. This message is for the 60% of us that typically don't get out and exercise our right to be heard.

It is pretty sad that most of us westerners think that way though, we feel like the counting stops on the Ontario border! Because of this, a lot of us don't vote! I've talked to a few people that say "I don't know enough about politics to vote" I can say I used to be that guy! But not anymore! I still barely know anything, but after watching our dollar rise, and our Gst go down, conservatives must be doing something right?

I voted about 3 weeks ago when I registered my new address with Elections Canada. Glad to get it out of the way.
Very concerned about what the heck the rest of Canada is thinking, though. Come on, people - give your collective heads a shake!!!

3 weeks? Good Friday was the first advance poll. Anything before that and you have not voted.
