Cool

Large bait fish on a tip up, most times out fishes all other methods . On the odd occasion a rattle trap type lure will bring the pike from a long way off.( then they take the bait on the tip up) mho. 30 lb floro , min . Even 30 has failed on one fish.

I agree with the tipups outfishing the rod most of the time, befor I moved north I it was pretty rare for me to break out the jigging stick for pike. However when I moved up to Slave I was surprized because nobody used them. I then went about 3 years without catching a fish on a tipup. Eventualy I tryed a jigging tipup and the ratio went back to what I was used to, probably half of my walleye and 75% of my pike get caught on the tipup.

I figure if I cant land a pike on 15lb line I dont deserve him anyway, just my philosophy.

10lb on 4lb test last year , and I'm fairly sure thats my pb for pike ice fishing no leader sz 12 Hook and a minnow . I know that's more luck than skill cause I watched a 10-12lbs do 30lb florocarbon like it's not there.

Nice! Sounds like fun! All the best fights I get in the course of a year are probably when I'm fishing for perch through the ice and hook a pike.

Probably the most intense one I had was while fishing with a homemade handline. It was 8 lb line and a 10 lb fish, not real crazy, but he put a good burn on my hand taking line on his first run, when I ran out of line I stuck my arm down the hole. I thought he would break off but apparently it was just enough to get him turned so I could start bringing him back. Now days I dont jig anything a pike would be interested in on a handline.

Thats is pretty cool. I had fun this summer when a 35" pike hit my twister tail on a simple jhook tied to 6lb fluoro on my 500 shimano. Caught just in the corner of the mouth. Couldnt believe i landed it. Really made that little real sing. No idea how heavy a 35" is?

Cool i take luck.

I am always amazed when I land pike with light line. My lightest outfit is a hoot . everyone asks how big is the fish, I laugh no idea the rods bent to the handle . Lol.
