Default $600.00 total limit, What .22 and scope would you go with?

Just like the title. I am only looking to spend around $600.00, and want to buy a new .22. I see all these packages on websites, with scopes already on but i don't know if thats the way to go. Any input greatly appreciated.

CZ.....an American not the European whale-back. I wouldn't put a tasco on personally but maybe a 3200 Bushnell.

CZ (Ceska Zbrojovka (sp?)) makes some really nice rifles. They will run you more that a 10-22 or a Savage, but are well worth the price, if you have the cash. Several dealers carry their wares (WSS, for example).

Default Česká zbrojovka a.s.

CZ manufactuers websitehttp://www.czub.cz/index.php?p=32&idp=2&ids=8&lang=en
There is also a CZ USA, which all the Canadian guns come through or get stamped with.

Great value for the price.
Start with the gun and add a 'fun' scope, lotsa zoom and AO. 4-12 Banner, 2.5-10 Tasco or similar and have a blast with head shots on gophers at +100yds.

Varmint and American are two popular models.

PM me for a dealer suggestion if you want.

Russell's Sports in Calgary has the CZ 452 Varmint for $470 in their online catalogue;

Spend some extra money on a good gunsmith grade screwdriver set including metric hex bits.

Can't beat my old Brno's so I would agree with the CZ. I have a vintage K4W Weaver on one and it's great.

Well I agree with what the boys have to say about BRNO, I have 5 of them and I also agree with what the boys have to say about CZ as I have 6 of them.

For your budget I would pick a Remington Model 5. They are as well made as the CZ line of rimfires, with the exception of the stock which is only available in laminate. Beautiful bluing on a mini mauser type action, manufactured by Zastava. These 22 were marketed in the USA under the Charles Daly brand are still very highly thought of on rimfire central.

Remington imported the barreled actions and stocked them and sold them as the model 5. I believe you can get one in Ontario from Elwood epps for less than $300.00, a steal in my opinion. Mine was purchased in 22 mag from WSS when they were first introduced for well over $400.00.

This will leave you with around $300.00 for rings ( Lynx for 50.00) and a scope and several bricks of ammo. I like 2-7 rimfire scopes and I have them mostly in Leupolds, but Nikon make a nice one for far less money and the Weaver 2-7 rimfire is a great scope for the money as well.

If you are in Edmonton you can stop by and see mine as I don't think you will find one here in Edmonton unless WSS still has them on the shelf. Bashaw Sports and Milarm are the other some what local Remington dealers, they may have them as well. FS

Default cz452

I bought a cz452 standard on here used for $360 with a cheap bushnell scope that does fine. Absolutely horrid factory triggers, but fixed pretty easily. Timney also makes aftermarket triggers for them, Western Gun Parts in edmonton sells the trigger for 115. I just bought the kit (brooks kit) for 12 bucks on ebay and now the trigger is great. Hits the same 22 hole at 50m not that it is hard from a bench at the range most targets beside mine have the same result. My dad has an older anshultz that shoots no better than mine - both are 22lr. There is a couple plastic parts on the CZ that annoy me but all in all a good gun.

Agreed, a CZ 452 and inexpensive Bushnell or Tasco scope is my suggestion. I was in a similar situation to yours, last month, and decided on a CZ 452, although I've kept it with open sights.

I have a tack driving CZ 452 American with a Mueller APV 4.5X14 black scope. I have no idea what a Mueller cost in Canada but they are excellent scopes for the money. Purchased rifle and scope for $460 US

The following is a great site for rimfires and scopes:

I have three Tasco scopes that I have replaced with better glass since I started. I'll give you one. Go with the CZ. I have the all weather version called the Style and its a tack driver out to 50-75 yards. I used it to trim branches from some trees.

Roger usually has cz in stock here http://www.shooterschoice.ca/rifles.htm
His prices include gst. Might be tough to get a cz for under 600 with decent scope.

Default Try Marlin.

Not touching quite as close to your price point try marlin.

I've owned the 981T in .22LR and it was a great shooter. Avaliable in both synthetic and wood stock a little cheaper and not as pretty as the CZ. Sold mine to buy the same thing .22WMR witha tube magazine. Not sure I would buy the Tube Mag again as It just doesn't seem to work for the Way I shoot.

Try one on: you may really like the Feel.

Cheers.

I went to the CZ website and really like the CZ452 Style. I like the synthetic black stock and the silver barrel. Do any of these scopes you guys mentioned come in silver? haha thanks for all the options guys, and my dad also mentioned marlin's, he likes them so i might take a look at one of those

If you are looking for a semi-auto. Take a look at the remington 597. I bought mine because I love the feel, some 22s I picked up felt to small and the 597 felt more like a full sized hunting rifle. You can buy them from 200-300bucks depending on what type of stock and barrel youget. Mine has shot great since day one. I recently put a Bushnell Legend 5-15x40mm scope on it, 200 bucks, with weaver rings 40bucks. will leave you money left over for ammo and targets.

I'm actually not a fan of the semi-auto's. I like the bolt action. Feels more stable to me.

I love my Ruger 10/22, bought it for about $350, slapped a $60 Tasco .22 scope on it and it's been good to go ever since! Plus if you want to spend that extra cash you get get a lot of fun accessories for it too.

Default Cz 452!

I have a CZ 452 Lux in left hand with the open sights. The gun is VERY well made for the price. Everything is good quality. I installed a brooks trigger kit - very easy to do in ~20 minutes (just use the proper sized punch to tap the pins out)

The Iron sights are of vary good quality and are finger adjustable for settings from 25-200 yards in 12.5 yard increments.

If you want to scope it I recommend something similar to the American model and put a scope that fills the budget.

CZ's are just GREAT guns, nothing more needs to be said.

10-22 cheap-ass rimfire scope, Butler Creek 25 rd. mag. Speed loader from Butler Creek, works for me. Friggin' gopher accurate and fast. You can tart up the trigger etc. or google stoning a 10-22 and really slick up the trigger. There are cheaper semis out there but they don't get the after market treatment the Ruger does, bolts are slow and less fun, some say more accurate but who cares? At $20 a brick, a big mag takes care of that and I like noise.

Have you considered going with a savage heavy barrel .17hmr? I know the ammo is a bit more then the .22 but if its accuracy and fun shooting you want you cant beet this type of rifle. With a decent scope you would be in under your $600 price point.

Until you get a little practice shooting in and it costs you big $ .17 HMR ammo is, IMO prohibitively expensive. Even .22 ammo is getting pricey, but it's still a bargain compared to .17 HMR.

I've shot one, a buddy's, and the red mist gopher is COOL, the closest thing to a .22 centerfire smashing hit I've ever seen, but not quite cool enough for me to lay out the $ for .17 HMR.

Too cheap to pay that for ammo, this is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of "More bang for the Buck!" .22 LR for me!

I like the savage heavy barreled 22, with a bushnell elite 3200 3-9x40. Should come in well under the 600 and you will likely get one heck of a shooter. I have 3 savage rimfire's a 22 heavy barrel, 22mag plainjane and a 17hmr stainless heavy barrel. The 22's keep 10 shots under an inch (usually bout 1/2") at 50 yards and the 17 will keep 10 shots under an inch at 100 with no wind.
For a plinker it's hard to beat a 22, go to walmart and get a box of 500 for 22bucks and blaze away. I also have a rem 597 heavy barrel 22 and a 15 year old plastic rem semi auto 22...the more I use them the more I like a bolt...blasting a can rapid fire is fun, but after a 100 or so rounds they need to be taken apart and cleaned to prevent jams...
