Cancun is a little tricky fishing on the beach because there are so many resorts lined up. I opted to try for some tarpon and snook in the lagoon side. Only hooked 1 snook and 1 small tarpon on a guided boat all day. Either way pretty cool experience going through the lagoon and the paths through the bushes out in the water. I think it was 500 for 1 or 2 people.

Only other recommendation for non guided is i think its still the lagoon side that there is a pathway for boats between the bank and the bushes - chance to get tarpon, snook and barracuda i believe but can get busy with boat traffic. There are big crocodiles in there though so be very wary, i saw a couple.

One last spot on the ocean side is near an inlet where theres a bridge going over it. There are a couple of pirate ships there that are those dinner cruise things. Thats where locals fish morning and evening i believe and i was supposed to get taken there by a local but the guy was a little bit odd so i chickened out last minute.

Hope that helps, good luck.

We visited Cancun last December. Hired a boat/guide to fish the lagoon side. Nothing spectacular, a bit pricey.
I spoke with a local who worked in the hotel we stayed at—Westin Hotel. He and his buddies go out fishing on the ocean side quite often around the full moon phase. I asked him to guide me —I would pay— on one of his trips. they did not make it out due to high wind and waves. They would meeet at 11pm. The area they fished was about 500 yards from the hotel. Beside the Westin is a vacant lot. They get to the ocean through that spot. They travel down the beach and fish. He showed me some pics of fish they catch. One was a 50lb jack of some sort. I was disappointed we did not make it out. Hope this helps. BEL

We used Captain Ricks south of Cancun in December and had great time and caught 10 fish.
