Shot this dog a couple weeks ago. Called him in and shot him in the neck at 300 yards with a fawn in distress, same call I won from this contest last year!
Used a Remington 700 in .30-06 with 165 grain core lokts.

My setup

Two more down for me. I'm at 20 yotes, 1 fox, 1 badger.

Hoping to put my new foxpro to use over Xmas and put a bunch on the ground.

Both of em today dropped to a 58gr vmax outta my browning blr 243 win.

I think I like my 22-250 with 52gr amax more. Less destruction, drops em faster, and shoots a bit flatter.

I got out this afternoon for a couple hours. I hiked in and set up my decoy and just as I was about to start calling I looked up and spotted a young male 200 yards up the hill. He was watching my decoy pretty intently. I didn't even get to start calling and it was all over. I am so sold on this decoy idea, I can't imagine hunting without it now that I've used it for a few hunts.

Here is what the coyote saw from where he was standing on the hillside (I was sitting in the rose bushes 20 yards this side of the decoy):

Here he is when I got through with him:

I bought a new mossberg 4 x 4 in .25-06 a couple days ago for yotes...zeroed it in yesterday, so I decided to take the afternoon off and give it a try. 3 shots, 3 yotes so I'm nothing but happy! Good day too, went 3 for 4 on stands.

First one of the day

Second of the day

Third of the day

All of them together

These 100gr bullets are definitly nicer to the fur than the .300 was!

Default First on Camera, Second of the Year

This little gal was a target of opportunity, out cruisin the back roads for bucks last week of the season and I drive past a farm. Three coyotes not 100 yrds from the road in amongst the cows. See the farmer feeding hay up at the farmyard so I drive in. Ask him if he knew the three coyotes were there, he says there's 5 around almost everyday! Then seeing me in camo, he says, well I'm assuming you have a gun, let's not chit chat, go shoot em!

Sneak throught the bale corral, can't find the three that I originally saw, but find this little female sitting alone by a feeder, 100 yrd shot to the back of the neck with my Rem 7-08 and a 150 gr. GK and it's all over. Going back this weekend to try call the rest out with a partner.

Gotta love landowners who give permission that easily!

I gotta say DJ, the coyotes in your area sure have nice fur. Are you selling them?

Keep it up.

number 3... put lots of time in, but only saw this one. Quite a far shot, about 400 yards. Shot him with a 30-06 with winchester ballistic tips. Made a mess.

Default number 20 for the year

This morning my fiance and I got out for a little while. On came in behind us after 15 minutes and found my decoy pretty interesting. I have no idea how but I managed to miss an easy broadside shot at 200 yards. I guess we all have to miss these shameful shots once in a while to keep us on our toes. I feel that made up for the miss pretty fast when I laid him out on the dead run at 250 yards with a second shot. My fiance has decided that coyote hunting may become her favorite type of hunting - so I can't complain about that.

I set up yesterday in a spot...did a couple calls...then realized it was a bad set up and before I had a chance to get up and switch 3 coyotes were staring me down from 380-400 yards! DOH....I know better I really wish I had my fawn decoy set out I think I could have made it happen.

Well today was a great day! Managed to put four yoyes on the ground. Called them all in and shots ranged from 15-100 yards. The tikka T3 in 223 performed great. Unfortunately i was on my own today so the pics are not the greatest. Can't wait to get out again. Good luck out there to all.
the first yote was a little rank and i did not bring him back to the truck but here is the other 3.

Default Best light weight shot gun for yote hunting?

Well fellas, the calling on Saturday was unreal for the first hour...the shooting however was less than spectacular! After parking the truck and walking over a few hills and settling behind a rock on a ridge, I could hear a dog howling to my north. I was facing south east. After 2 sequences on the Primos Ki-Yi, I had a dog literally in my lap! Time was about 4 min from me sitting down! Of course as soon as I see him, he pulls a 180 and is gone like a flash. 3 shots and no fur flying! At this point I'm kicking myself for not bringing a shotgun and for not facing north, knowing very well there was a dog coming in! What are your thoughts on an inexpensive shotgun that isnt too heavy? And what guage is best?

So I pack up and head to my second stand. Maybe a 2km drive and 5 min walk to the coulee edge. I obviously am a silouhette as I rest on top of a pretty good sized rock. One sequence on the ki-yi and I notice something that doesnt look right 300 yds below me. A view through the scope shows a beautiful pale yote staring right at me. Just laying there this dog gets up, stretches, and proceeds my way. One more sequence, and I have this yote who obviously saw me sit down, within 75 yards. One shot, and the doge takes off! By this point I am swearing myself up and down! Maybe its the 223, maybe its the guy holding the 223. Range a thin piece of slate rock at 100yds and the slate is in pieces after 1 shot. So now I know its me.

I guess I've got a bit of yote fever I need to take care of before my next hunt, but I'm quite impressed with me new call. 2 dogs on a string in the first hour! Was hoping to share two pics with you guys this morning, but they'll have to wait! Enjoying your pics though folks!

Regards,

One disappointed yoter, BDAJ

P.S. on a shot under 100 yds downhill, do I need to compensate that much for the shot? I was holding right on the dog for the second stand.

you should aim a little bit lower on the coyote for a downhill shot
