Well we're back.....

Here is the summary:

WMU 406

- All the creeks (and small feeder springs) and ponds are dried up (or green slime)
- tinder dry conditions
- saw some Muley does with little ones
- very little elk sign
- no bugles at all (we were up most of the night)
- no response to cow calls
- didn't even see a moose!

I figure either we were too early, or there were just simply no elk in the valleys where we were. They are probably near the larger rivers that still hold cleanish water.

Anyone else get some rut action? Maybe the cool weather coming later this week will stir things up a bit.

Ahh well, still lots of fun. Even though all I have to show for the effort is a sore back and neck!

I was in there today on the far East side, didnt see any fresh moose sign at all, and not even a deer any where. Maybe this colder weather coming in mid week will help bring things to life.

hanks for that info!!!! I was inquiring on this forum earlier. 406 is still that dry and it appears all the way down to Watertown it's the same.
I was going to head out to listen for calling Friday but I think I'm going to give it a few weeks.
I was in 326 this past weekend and there was water. Wet dew in the morning. But no sign or sight or sound of elk. Also tried 318 for a night and nothing there but muley doe's.
