\\\great accurate gun but what suprised me is how natural the straight back bolt design is.

I have the synthetic varmint in 17hmr. I am very happy with it overall and would not be scared to recomend it to anyone. The clip works amazing and the action and trigger are very smooth. They are pricey but I think it has been worth it.

Had one in Left 22. Nice wood, wqell built but for the price I thought it should group much better. It would do an inch at 50 yards but was picky about ammo and prone to flyers. My CZs and anschutzs were about the same price and shot much better so I sold it and bought another Anschutz.

No matter which one you get gramps, I'd suggesting sticking with the .22LR. You can put a lot of rounds down the tube to hone your "off-hand" shooting at a fraction of the price of .22WMR or .17's. At least, I'm thinking that practise is what you're seeking. Rich just got a Savage MKII, works great, very accurate and affordable. Good luck on your choice.

Mine shoots very nicely. I like to shoot the target ammunition. A little slower but they group very well.
