Default Test Nets

I was at Beaver Lake yesterday and SRD was doing test nets. I watched them set the nets then leave. I'm just curious if anybody know are these nets are gill nets? Are the fish caught in these nets released after the count or is the mortality really high and the fish are dead?

They are gill nets and most, if not all, fish die.

Beaver lake by Caroline. That's a real waste then, not to say how much its going to hurt the fishery for this year. They had 6 or 7 sets of nets out there. Almost every good hole had a net strung across it. I wonder how much will be left after this 'test netting'.
