Default Anyone fished in Asia?

I am possibly heading to the Philippines in January for 3 weeks vacation. Has anyone ever fished there? Looking for info on where to go and what to expect. I will specifically be in a city called Cebu and another area called Bohol, completely avoiding Manila. I have looked up charter fishing companies there but they are all dead email links or never return calls. My wife says her father used to catch Black Marlin and Tuna there, but he has passed on and his boat has been sold, so obviously can't have the family take me out fishing.

The weather is usually 30 degrees on a cool night with 85% humidity. Going to be a heck of a change for my Scandinavian skin, lol.

I hired several "charters" in Thailand and one in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam.

Cost in Vietnam was 18$ for the boat and driver for the day. I had some gear and caught some small fish in a lagoon. It was a sight seeing tour however our small group paid them for the day so we did/went wherever we wanted. The boat operator was no fishermen. We hired them by going to the marina the afternoon previous and just picking the best boat which doesn't say much.

In Thailand we hired either the day before or I would get up early and find someone to take us for the day, including lunch, refreshments, snorkel gear etc

cost could range from 350-1200 baht.

Their rods were junk and mostly for trolling for cuda, otherwise we always fished with a handline. I would suggest taking your own gear. I had an old 5 piece light spinning rod.

I'm sure some people must go after some large sportfish, but I was content with what we did.

Squid pieces make great bait.

I'll post a bit more about this later.

I am told that Cebu has a great angling goods store centered around name brand North American gear, plus I don't own saltwater gear.
I was thinking of doing the same as Beeguy and trying to rent a boat and operator at the local Marina.

I've always wanted to make the trip to Eastern Russia for some Pacific Salmon fishing, mainly cuz it's much more remote then the West Coast of BC and to say I've caught salmon on both sides of the salt. I'd also love to hit up some rivers in Mongolia for a Taimen.

I got introduced to the species either through River Monsters or the National Geo special they did on the fish. Either way, upper Mongolia looks beautiful and the chance to catch the worlds largest salmonoid would be well worth the trip.

I've never fished the Bow. I think I'll change that next week when I'm down south for a bit.
