Found 15 black morels on Sunday in about half an hour. Just need some time to get out put in an honest effort.

Thanks for the offer but I emailed some pictures to th Edmonton Mycology Society and they confirmed they were black and amber morels. I might go out again tonight and see if I can find some more.

We just need a good dump of rain to get things started I think. I should probably go out and check out my area just in case...

I doubt it. While it is nice now, it has been a cold spring and the mycelium takes some time to grow. The morels really need some rain soon or the crop will be sparse in the lower foothill areas.

Default The morel of the story is....

Ive never heard if these until last night when a friend from Wisconsin said he was going hunting for them this weekend. Now I'm gonna have to find some. Gonna look around some poplars and see whats what. Any idea on how to store them. I was told to use cold salt water after so that the bugs come out :{ huh.

Good luck if you're looking. I gotta agree with Walking Buffalo, we need rain ASAP if we're going to see any Morels.

I really want to find some of these this year.
If we don't get any moisture, will low lying swampy polar areas still produce?
What kind of bush should I be looking in?
I havent had much luck finding any when I've been out putting out trail cams and rummaging around.
Any tips would be appreciated.

Im finding them around old burnt slash piles. Odd ones in the edge of meadows. Only falseys in the darker thicker bush so far. Your best bet would be to find some crown areas that had a forest fire 2-5 years ago.

Found some false morals around Kinuso last weekend, checked a few spots around spirit river here and haven't seen anything promising. Anyone in the NW of the province looking for a picking partner this season?

Default Calgary Area

I did a little scouting last weekend, Bragg Creek area and SW corner of Calgary. No luck, the ground was pretty dry near the city, but promising terrain I think. If anybody wants to meet up for a little foray this Saturday(25th), I'm game. Looks like a damp week, but kinda cool. Maybe next week it will warm up and then things will happen?

Nothing in the Zama area yet. Been looking in the burns from last summers fire. Still a bit early but will keep posted. Its dry here to but lots of muskeg. The fire here was a complete burn. Wife said it looks like a different planet but im told this is good for morels.

Default morrels

I must be loosing it the ones I found last week were all false dont know what I was thinking but I know some were half caps and most were false due to the cotton substance in the stock. All should not have a removable cap.
I have read to many articles so all dehydrated stuff is in the garbage
