Minnewanka? 1.5 hours. Smaller lakers at Spray? 1 hr. Next closest would be Cold Lake. 9 hours?

Haven't even thought of Montana, but that's a great idea. Looking to go to a place where we will catch huge ones, a lake that isn't pressured heavily by fishing like all the lakes around here. That's why I suggested an 8-10 hr drive. My Buddy went up to Wolaston lake and has pictures of 25 lb fish they caught, but took them two days of straight driving each way, I thought there must be something closer that has comparable fishing???

Biggest I've seen. The biggest Laker ever was netted here at over 100lbs. Big water though so you will have to research a bit where to go.

There was a vid in a post earlier to wet your appetite. Despite the thread going sideways the topic being ridiculous, the vid from the OP is worth watching to see the sheer size.

See this post:

Peerless by red earth. 7 hr drive large lakers. Lots of other good lakes in the area for walleye pike perch. Little to no pressure. Good size body of water can get rough but usually not to bad. Can catch lakers in shallow water after ice off always off by week after may long.

Naw just a good pattern identification system . I had 10lber in way less than 10hrs lots of smaller fish in under 4hrs. Without electronics or down riggers off a house boat. I did have 6 rods at my disposal .line counter 230' with 8-16oz lead and large floating rapalas in dark colors I had gished shuswap a fair bit before but never gor lakers just bows with bucktails and boards.

Kootenay Lake fills both criteria, ie a trout lake with large fish and less than 8 hrs from Calgary.

Only ever heard a rumor of a lake trout in the big lake. Way harder to get koot bows to the boat than any laker I ever had a chance to try for.

The OP asked "Does anyone know of a great trout lake 8-10 hrs from Calgary " did not sound like he was looking for Lake trout specifically just a lake with some large trout.

Yes it is a bit mixed between the title and the post. In that case my fax pas . The only choices would be arrow and the koot . However if you want actually catch fish stick to lake trout .lol

Bridge or sheradin lake on the fishing highway in b.c. Our biggest laker was 23 lbs but caught lots and lots over 12. Sheradin has giant rainbows I think to 16 lbs. These are not huge lakes either, and hundreds more to choose from in that area.

I know Diefenbaker had good lake trout fishing in there in years past. I have not heard lately though.

Flathead Lake in Montana has HUGE lakers, about 5hrs from Calgary. Not sure if this lake is froze over for ice fishing but unbelievable fishing in the summer average size was 12lbs but not surprizing to catch 25lb ers.
Good luck where ever you go
