Default How to read landowner map?

Hi all, this is the first time I'm trying to read a landowner map (of Foothills County) for hunting access purposes.

Screenshot of landowner map: https://imgur.com/a/fE94my8

I was curious to see some info I wasn't sure how to interpret:
  • What does the "935875 AB" mean? Is that unowned land? Is that owned by an entity called 935875?
  • What about a parcel that has no ownership info -- is that unowned?

Thanks y'all!

Owned by an AB numbered company. No listing may mean that the land is a subdivision with multiple acreages on it.

Lots of land is owned by numbered companies, hence the 9357899 or whatever on the 1/4 section, I would say the the 1/4 section that has nothing on it is a part of a parcel or was just missed when they made the map, someone owns it even but it may be the RM or County or possibly still crown land.

That is all private land. If it was crown it should be green.

Thanks all— what’s a numbered company? Is there a way for me to contact them?

A corporate entity, number instead of a name, they must have a listed office on the corporate registry.

I would think most numbers will be the lawyer though, not the actual owner. A lawyer may pass your number along, but I doubt they'll give you the owners name and number.

Sometimes you wind up talking to the lawyer for permission, I usually ask a neighbor, who owns it or is farming it, sometimes a 1/4 is actually owned by the kids of the owner of the rest of a section. Fella that has a 1/4 may live there, 5-50mi away or in Cgy or in BC somewhere. And you never know who is related to who altogether in some areas, or how.May be an acreage on it with a house that is separately owned or rented, or owned by landowner and rented out. And then of course, ownership or who's leasing to farm it can change from year to year and not be reflected on the map, I-Hunter has that issue sometimes. And then you eventually get to know everyone, get permission in 3-4 areas of 20 sections or so, and the birds move to a new area, out of that zone and you start all over again.

Go to Spin2 online and search the area for parcels and subdivisions. The attached surveying maps often indicate the registered owner at the time of survey. You can also pull title for $10 which gives the owner and contact info.

I have found that when talking to other landowners in the area I plan to hunt and if they are receptive to access and hunting, that they usually know who else has land in the area and will give you there contact information.

Just to clarify this, the contact info given is typically name and mailing address.

No it doesn’t. You get pretty much what’s on the county-issued map.
