Why would they be worried about pics getting out of their reconciliation celebration?
If any of this BS was truly about reconciliation they would be the ones sending the pics of their great traditional hunters and the wonderful table fare they harvested for the tribe to the media, instead they are worried about pics of the jasper park farm animals they shot for trophy status getting public.
Such a blatant line of BS. Shame on them, shame on the park, and shame on the Feds. Spitting in the face of all Canadians.

No news stations as of yet, however widely distributed.
I do plan on penning an "exposure" of sorts which will be targeting the media.
There is absolutely NO doubt as to the validity of the photo's posted, nor the ones I am holding back for the moment.

Perhaps we need to start naming the animals in the park, might get more coverage from the news outlets.

That's a great idea about naming the animals. That was Standing Bull, the great indigenous monarch of the turn off into jasper

Ya, no kids. Kill a bunch of farm raised wild animals in a park and nobody bats an eye, but you shoot one lion named Cecil in a legal hunting area and the whole planet flips out.
They sure did a good job of keeping this on the down low!

Perhaps these traditional hunters shouldn't be allowed to take the heads.

I agree 100%. It would be real interesting to see how may hunters they would get from a band in BC if no heads were allowed to be kept.

Or how about the Ram that was legally taken in 410 a few years ago? Didn't he have a name as well? That hit the news didn't it?

Looking at the treaty maps I don't see anything around Jasper, Hinton or Grande Cache for litigation purposes for the Simpcw nation or any other for that matter .

They don't have to travel all the way to JNP They can just go to downtown Penticton.

I spoke at length with Mark Young (780-852-6176) again today. He is the FN Liaison for JNP. I had spoken to him prior to the hunt to express concerns.
His response at the time was that should all initiatives be dragged thru the "court of public opinion", no progress would ever be made. He defended the idea that a traditional hunt was defined more by the PEOPLE that participated, rather than the MANNER and TECHNOLOGY used to hunt. I guess my definition of traditional differs from his...
My call today was to voice my opposition to an antlers and horns hunt (I'm trying to avoid the much maligned term "trophy hunt"). In speaking to Mr. Young, I was able to confirm that the pictures of the two rams and the whitetail buck were indeed shot during the Jasper hunt last week. Thanks for your work in acquiring the pictures, Nog.
The father and son duo (whose names will remain anonymous), members of the Simpcw FN, have posted pictures of their JNP animals on FB. Their FB account shows dozens of other incredible animals, including several world class bighorn, whitetail, mule, moose, elk, goat and even a northern BC Dall ram in which an article was written in a big game hunting publication. Not a single picture shows females or young males of a species.
In speaking to Mr. Young, he indicated that 3 bull elk, 3 rams, and 1 whitetail was harvested. I have seen pictures of only 3 of the above 7 animals. When asked about the approximate age and antler/horn size of the remaining 4 animals, Mr. Young was not forthcoming.
My response to him is that I'm shocked and disappointed that PC would allow what I believe to be a horns and antlers hunt within the park, under the guise of a traditional harvest. Further, I would argue that a true traditional hunt would either select for young/females for meat quality, or at the very least be an accurate survey of male to female ratios is a given game population. I.e.: A 50:50 split between males and females shot, with some young and some older animals taken.
The fact that not a single female was taken and that all 3 animals that we've seen pictured above are incredible specimens speaks to what I believe the true colors of this hunt are.
Mr. Young curtly responded that different people will respond differently to from my interpretation. Indeed!
Further, he suggested that I speak directly to Chief Matthew to voice my worries, and also "encouraged" me to write a letter to PC to formally express my worries. He did mention that more hunts are in the works for the future.
I would encourage other concerned members of this community to make their voices heard.
My next step is to decide whether to contact local media to give my perspective. My trepidation is that anyone who speaks out against this hunt is almost immediately labeled as anti-FN.

Keep at it. It's not being anti fn. It's just saying "if you're gonna bend us over, at least have the respect to use lube".
And to think that many in the public will consider this "progress".
