Was out deer hunting today, saw 3 coyotes but had no shop opportunity.
Sitting in my stand this little guy comes trotting up the pathway, so I took him. This is my first fox ever, not only seeing one but shooting one.
Then near the end of the day I shot a small buck. He took off into the bush so I let him be for a bit and carried on up the line.
Lo and behold another fox comes trotting up this line. I waited for him as he was hell bent on coming my way, well at 15 yards the 30/30 did a good number on him. His good side is on the stump.
Can't believe it 2 foxes and a small buck for the day.
Twas a good day.

Default Wedding Prank

I apologize in advance for the long story to go along with these photos.

My brother-in-law is a notorious prankster and I have been the victim on several occasions of his trickery. He actually managed to prank me twice for my wedding, so when he got married this summer... he had it coming.

He had purchased a Savage .17hmr earlier this year, but had yet to try it out on anything bigger than a gopher. I happened to be out one weekend with my father-in-law looking for some late season gophers & saw a small 'yote mousing in a field. I nailed the dog at about 100 yards and then went and recovered it to take the picture that would serve as my revenge prank!

I believe the caption was something like "here is my wedding prank, also, you took to friggin long to shoot something with this gun - have a great day". To shoot another man's gun before he got a chance to truly break it in might look like not a big deal to a non-hunter, but I trust that the posters on this forum will recognize the humour in this story.

Got out of work with enough time to do 2 stands before the evening deer hunt. First stand was blank, the second one produced this really mangy yote. Its probably the mangiest one I have ever shot, I think i did it a favour with winter coming in hard!

Same as yesterday, I got 2 stands in before the evening deer hunt. This one came in at 6 minutes on the second stand...the first one was a blank.

Same again, I left work with enough time for 2 stands before accompanying a buddy on an evening deer hunt (i'm all tagged out now). This yote came in at 8 minutes on the second stand, I managed to lip squeak it in to 12 yds (paced out).

Changed it up today and went for 3 stands before work. This one came in to 28yds at the 10 minute mark of the 3rd stand. It snuck up from my left, so I didnt see it until it was about 50yds away. I couldnt believe I was able to get my gun over without it tearing out of there, but It never even looked my way, just stayed focused on the foxpro!

Default Smallest of the year

I went out to one of my spots today to go for a walk and check my trail cams...as I was leaving this little guy was mousing in the farmers front field. I saw him from the main road so I had to turn around and go back into the yard (I didn't want to shoot towards the house). I walk across the driveway....through a tree line....skirt the hillside and pop up over and there he is....I bark once he stops and the trusty .270win put him down I almost felt bad cause he was so tiny....

Hi Guys, got this one yesterday morning, 200 yards in 10 mile wind, DRT, I missed one the day before, I figure I hit him but can't find it, was a 20 mile wind, I can not believe there is 12 inch drift with 223 and 55 gram bullet at 200 yards and 20 mile wind at 90 degree.

Hi Guys, I got this one today, same place as always the bait pile 200 yards, she turned just as I was pulling the trigger and ended up with no exit, I tried something new today, to skin with air, this helped a lot with the front shoulders and head, be careful, it makes the eyes pop and when your skinning you have to be extra careful with the eyes, it also makes them **** and pup..

Default Yote # 4

Went out yesterday for a stand and scared this female out of the trees on the way. Hit her once on the run at 260 yds . I guess she could not out run the .204. Called it a day and went to work.

Here's a couple that I shot last week:

Today, I went out to my favorite spot. Parked the car, and snuck over to the edge of the coulee and imidiately spotted a coyote at 250 yards. He was upwind and had no idea I was there, I though "perfect - this is a done deal." I laid down to shoot, but just as I was lining up on him, he took off like he was shot out of a cannon. It was the weirdest thing I'd ever seen, he never even glanced over at me before running away. I watched him run away for over a km and he never slowed down to look over his shoulder once. So much for a done deal. COYOTE #1.

I hiked up the valley to where I was planning on calling from, but when I got there, I saw that two coyotes had beat me to it. Took a 250 yard shot and dropped one of them. The other took off into a swamp and I couldn't get a shot at him. COYOTES #2 and #3.

I headed in the direction of where the second coyote had run, and when I crested the hill I looked down to see a coyote on the other side of the reservoir out on a mud flat. I pulled up my binos and realized that there was not one, but 8 coyotes out there milling around and playing! I've never seen a pack that big before, I was speachless. COYOTES #4 to #11.

I watched them for a few minutes and realized that it wasn't worth educating a whole bunch just to get one or two of them. Just as I was turning to leave, I looked a few hundred meters farther down the mud flat and saw what I though to be a small flock of geese sitting out by the edge of the water. When I raised my binos, my jaw hit the ground - what I though was a flock of geese was actually another pack of coyotes - this one had 9 in it! I was absolutely dumbfounded as I sat and watched 17 coyotes milling around within 300 meters of eachother. COYOTES #12 to #20.

I snuck out of that area without bothering or educating any of them, and headed off for another calling spot. When I got there, I sat down and decided that I didn't want to educate any coyote to a distress sound since it was the first hunt of the year in this area, so I did a calling sequence of howls only. A few minutes later, I saw one comming in. It took me about 20 minutes to bring him in close, but he finally came in to 40 yards and I let him have it. COYOTE #21.

After I skinned out the two coyotes, I headed back to the car and spotted one more on my way. He was on the other side of the unfrozen reservoir, so he was safe for today. COYOTE #22.

I have never seen coyote densities like this in my life, and I am by no means new to coyote hunting. All of these coyote were in a 3 km stretch of river valley. I knew I had a great place to coyote hunt, but I never imagined it was this good. I'm looking forward to knocking them off one by one this winter.

Headed out to my buddys place about an hour west of Edmonton as I had the weekend off from my course in the city.

Saturday we tried calling just in side the bush on a small trail. Nothign there. Packed up to move and when we looked out on the lake there were 4 on the other side of the lake moving to the north. Set up quick to try and coax one over but they would only sit and look. As I was watchign them I looked to my right and I had one comming in along the shore line on the ice. Had to turn 90 degrees to shoot. WHen I did he saw me and I mad a quick shot as he turned to leave. Missed..

Went across the road and set up in a small bay in the cattails. Called for about 15 mins with the foxpro and we were just about to pack up when I spotted one come out of the cattails at the end of the bay. Switched the call to the squeaks and he came in to about 120 yards and the 35gr berger dropped him on the ice!

Called all afternoon In what looked like prime coyote country with no takers.

Went to a landowners palce that had just lost her dog to yotes about 2 days ago to see if we could thin them out a bit.

Second stand I was on the hand call for about 1 min when my partner spots one abtou 600 yards comming hard. Just then the wind switched. He hung up about 500 yards. Turned on the pup in distress call on the foxpro to see if it would bring him in but he just sat and watched. Just then my parter says "Hard left!" I look over and I have one charging right at the call/ A quick "woof" stops him and 70 yard shot has #2 for the day down!

Today we got out and tried a new area. Called in 3 spots with no luck. On the walk back to the truck we came back to the first spot we tried and there was one out on the ice by the beaver pond. Qucikly set on on a small bush pile. Hit the foxpro and he came out of the grass about 80 yards below us. I made a bad shot and hit him low in the leg (yote fever) and he poped out again on the edge of the trees and I hit him again to put him down.
After that it started to get to windy then the rain came. Hopefully the cold weather and snow comes soon!

A rather gruesome picture, but here is mine from Saturday. He crossed the field at around 9 AM and I hammered him at 460 yards with the 270 while deer hunting. He ran about 20 yards and then went A** over Teakettle. This is #3 for me this fall. 1 with the bow, then 2 with the rifle

I'd like to get a few with my bow, but I haven't been able to. Close once, but it didn't happen.

Kudos to you.

Well, I can't complain about the coyote hunting today. I put in a long, long, hard day and it sure paid off. I've never been able to get more than three coyotes in one day, so I'm always striving for number 4 before I head for the truck - but it never seems to materialize. Today, managed to get my number 4 and I didn't stop there. Ended up with 8!

I finally got a chance to try out my decoy and man alive did it work well. I laid down on the ice behind my decoy and had 3 different coyotes charge me and one big male got really mad that I was intruding on his turf.

I'm pretty relieved that I made it home finally. I skinned coyotes late into the night and then had to hike 3 km back to the truck while carrying an extremely awkward garbage bag full of pelts and my decoy. Nice that my head lamp crapped out on me just as it was getting dark.

Here is my contribution!
Shot this Male black wolf while calling moose on the morning of Oct 5th 2011 in the peace region.

I shot him at about 75 yards while he came charging out with another Grey Wolf, the pack had actually surrounded the cutblock we were calling in.

The wolf was shot with a Sako Model 75 Greywolf in 270 WSM.

Haven't been on in a while. While moose hunting in mid Nov, put in a few hours in the am hunting moose/elk and then shooting dogs in the afternoon. The first one came in as a pair, I managed to nail one and then both of us tried hitting the second one while it was doing mach 5 at 270 yds. Needless to say we got the one. Remington 700vls in .22-250 with Leupold VX-3L scope. 36gr Varmit grenade handloads. The coyote was shot at 360yds. I love the varmit reticle....

Second doggy was shot at 260yds. It was small enough that we walked past him 3 times as it blended in and was hid by the stubble...

Went out with the girls today and was able to connect on 3 yotes, and a nice badger.

Saw lots more, but they were outta reach with the girls along.

I'm at 18 yotes, 1 fox, and 1 badger. The 223 with 55gr Hornady SP did well today. Had one big hole on the smallest yote, but he was running straight away and the bullet hit big bone.

Here's one I got last week. He was skulking around my sheep and took off towards the neighbours. Caught up to him a mile away and managed to put a vent hole in him with the 7mm.
