Default East arm GSL

A few of us took a couple of boats out to the east arm of Great Slave Lake on Saturday. The fishing was absolutely ridiculous, we couldn't go 5 minutes without a bite.
Most fish were in the 8-15 pound range but we caught a couple of tanks as well. Al got big fish of the day at 34 lbs. It would have been released but it took it in the gills and would not make it.
It's a long day from 4A.M. to midnight but we don't get too many days out there where the lake is like glass all day long. If you've never tried it fresh lake trout fried in louisiana hot sauce on the shore of the lake is to die for.
Hope you enjoy.

Beaut!

Need some more trip details...! How long was the drive (from where)? Did you guys camp? How long were you there? Any issues with finding gas, etc?

Any other species caught, or just lakers?

Nice trip...would love to go one year.

It's a 70 km boat ride from Yellowknife to the start of the east arm at Gros Cap. We usually fish right there on day trips as it's the closest spot to home and the fishing speaks for itself. It's about an hour and 45 minutes one way.

I always bring an extra jerry can or two, but I've never had to use it for the round trip yet.

If we go and camp for few days I sometimes have to fill the tank of the trolling motor, but not usually the boat. Having said that I always go prepared for the worst.

We had visitors from out of town who wanted to fish for lakers that day so that is all we caught. There are lots of pike and grayling to be had as well. There are also whitefish if you can coax them into biting.

If you get a chance I highly recommend it.
