Pretty!

I haven't been out there this year yet. I have no draws in there this year, and I'm not sure if I will at all... I often go out for birds, but one of my favorite hunting buddies (my FIL) is declining in health and can't do the long walks anymore.

What kind of game are you looking for? Keep us posted on how it works out...

I am headed out for opening day. I have antlered elk and hopefully a good spot. Good luck to everyone headed in.

Good luck out there. Ive been bird hunting out there and almost every time Ive been out I have run into some FN hunters exercising their rights to hunt all year. There definitely seems to be some extra pressure on the big game early this year. Also the grouse numbers have been the lowest I have ever seen.

I spend probably 15 days a year, maybe more, and in all 4 seasons in 936 for the last 5 years and have never seen hunters outside of the regular hunting seasons. I don't use the Central staging area. Maybe that's why.

Had an elk tag last year and never saw one. This year I have been out on my bike grouse hunting 3 times and last week while looking for a bird walked right up on a heard of elk, right on the edge of a field with heavy bush on 2 sides. They disappeared into the bush when I got to 250 yards so they are there but shy of humans with guns. Also still a few lucky grouse as my aim was bad. Good luck.

Hunted hard in Blackfoot last year. Had an antlerless moose tag but didnt connect. Had one chance at a cow calf but didnt take the shot because I didnt know how far the pack out would be and the cow was huge. Could have shot cow and bull elk and did end up getting a nice WT buck. And did see the monster mulie that was living in the park last year. Talked to the onsite CO and they knew of him and were worried that he was so close to a road. Still scared of poaching in the park.

Good luck to the lucky ones with tags this year, cant wait to see pic and hear stories of the hunts!!

Love the thread. I got my first discharge permit this year and was out scouting with the family in late summer. Looking forward to heading in there once the cold weather hits. Somehow chasing critters on a cold day just seems all the more satisfying. Plus it will allow the crowd to die down. Only a WT tag for me

Looks like the elk herd is rebounding according to the mandatory session. I think I will target Monday. No Sunday hunting should help.

Success on my cow tag in 936 today. Met 2 other hunters heading into the same area before first light and we agreed to cooperate rather than compete and possibly mess up everyone's hunt. It worked - 1 bull and 2 cows from the same herd. Great sportsmanship all round but also a good dose of luck. A bit of a haul but that's the Blackfoot.

Had bull moose tag in there 3 years ago. All I could find was elk! Funny how that goes.
