Last year I had much more elk action in the first week of September than I did in the remainder of the year. Hunting in 312.

Interesting to hear, thanks moose.
Last year I went out Sept 1 and did some calling, checking a camera, and just scouting and noticed practically no sign or sound of them at all. We returned Sept 12 and it was pretty quiet but we heard some responses to our calling and had the 4th bull we saw that day, on the ground by 1030 am. The year before it was prime time around the 20th. I thought it was supposed to be pretty much the same week every year in a zone. I guess rather than taking any time off work I should just go every weekend lol

Ditto...I think I had more action in the first 15 minutes legal light, opening day than remainder of the year...lol [took bull early ]

Three or four bulls dozen cow/calf with one 5x5 with a death wise as it keep circling me and standing broadside 10 to 20 yads at least a half dozen times...

The two hottest times for me and my area is that first week...its crazy or super slow...But well worth the time as in the last half doz years I could have taken elk first light opening morning even if slow...[smaller bulls& cows]

Best time seems to be second week of October...its the second rut and smalls groups are herding up into bigger herds...

With September 1st landing on a Tuesday this year, are we to expect the season to still open on the first? How has it worked in past situations like this?

Summer cant slip by fast enough.

Bow is ready, recently tuned by Jimbow's in Edmonton.

New arrows, FMJ's, and draw weight this year. All 7 pins are now sighted in.

Shot some broadheads yesterday for the 1st time, this year. Flying great out to 80 yards. Just need to choose between the QAD or Slick Tricks. A few more trips to the range should reveal a "winner".

I am ready for a great hunting season.

I can hardly wait to get out chasing elk again. Haven't been out for the scouting yet and it's painful waiting. Have a new private land spot that I'd like to check out. Getting the public land herd bull of a lifetime tagged will open up time for the new area
