Default Kids Friend Fishing - Parksville BC (in and around)

looking for some suggestions for a kids friendly fishing spot that has good action.
Planning on taking the kids to go fishing while on Vancouver Island, staying in Parkville, wouldn't mind driving around a bit. Kids are 3-4 years old.
We don't really care about size of fish, as it will be catch and release, just looking for any tips or locations, where the kids can spend a few hours catching lots of fish.

I would go on a charter, but the kids are too young and also get car sick so I am not going to risk the ocean.

Thanks in advance!

I was in Nanaimo area May long and shore fishing didnt seem to be much of an option so we bought some crab traps and had good success and very fun. They were about $20 for the fold in half and throw traps. Just buy some some chicken drumsticks for bait and get a license for fairly cheap. I have a 4 year old and he found it fun. We did well from swayalana fishing pier in Nanaimo but was busy but also got at other shore areas south of that but Im sure there are some in Parksville area. Be sure to follow regs as there are size limits.

Most of the flowing waters close down this weekend until end of August. There are a number of stocked ponds but I never see many catches. In my time exploring here, other than great seasonal opportunities, fishing has been exhausted. There are some great beaches, and small tidal pools that are teaming with life, that will keep kids poking for hours. Lots of local events to check out (google), and dad might be interested in some of the best show and shines.

One can spend a week on Rathtrevor beach playing in the sand and water. If you have a boat you can catch tons of sole around there plus dogfish.
