Default Anyone deep-frying their turkey today?

This will be my first kick at the cat. Have several friends that do it every year and swear by it. Got all the do's and don'ts.
Hopefully I don't ruin Christmas dinner lol.

Its easier than you expect, the worst part is deposing of the grease/oil after.

It's easy to do. Inject it up with whatever goodnesss you choose, drop her into the grease!
Well gently settle it into the grease. Have a beverage, chow down easy peasy.

I'm doing something new this year, cooking one in the oven .
I've smoked 'em, BBQ'd 'em and deep fried 'em, never used an oven. Who knew an oven was useful?

Deepfried turkey is awesome! The only way you can mess it up is under or over doing it. Just follow the tips in the manual.

Don't overfill the cauldron and make sure its thawed.

This is very important. If you forget, you will experience an explosion up close and personal. It may make you feel like you are in a war zone under intense fire.


When I lived in the ME we would do a turkey in the sand dunes every Christmas. It was awesome. The only thing missing was fresh gravy.

Picked up my turkey from the colony on Thursday and seasoned it yesterday.
Today was cooking day.
Got the oil up to 375°, shut the flame off and lowered in the 22lb bird. 1hr and 5 mins later I lifted out the juiciest, best tasting turkey anyone in my family has ever had.
I don't think we'll ever go back to baked turkey again.

We deep fry a few every year. Winter or summer. Don't need a holiday occasion to use as an excuse. Just do it. Yum, Yum.

Last night my stepson shovelled out the area around my chiminea to start a bonfire.
I told him I had some old lamp oil that he could use because the wood was a bit green.
He said he already found it. I shrugged it off until I remembered that my lamp oil was locked in the shed.

Turns out that he had found my strained and cooled Turkey Fryer oil that I was saving for today

He used 2 gallons before he came in and asked me why it would not light.
Once I got it going for him-it smelled delicious

I've been wanting to try this. But I'd have to actually see and taste it, to see if it's worth all the gear and time/effort. The few pictures I've seen of the finished product doesn't seem too appealing. Haven't tasted it though.

Our oven is broken, so we've been baking everything in our BBQ. Roasts, Ham, Banana Bread, Wings, Deserts, etc. We did the Turkey last night in it. It was So moist it was dripping. Tasted awesome:

Dave, don't let the "burnt to a crisp" look fool you, it's awesome. What you are seeing is the rub I put on.
I thought for sure I ruined dinner when I pulled it out. The armchair quarterbacks behind me didn't help either.
But as we sliced off chunk after chunk with juices running down the whole bird, people started grabbing pieces out of the pan and wouldn't stop.
The outside is crispy, the inside is moist and tender...I'm telling you it is unbelievable.

I'd like to try it while camping next year. We always go on Thanksgiving weekend. I'll try to grab the gear for then.
