Pretty much all I'm thinking about lately. My dad gave me his old camper to do with what I wanted so I installed a woodstove, cut hatches in the floor and made it into an awesome ice fishing shack. Just gotta wait patiently until the ice is thick enough to drive on...

My brother is building us a shack this year.
I keep bugging him to see if he's started, and he keeps saying there's lots of time yet.
I hate winter, but I love ice fishing.

I'm still thinking about a couple more trips with the boat.

I should, however, get the auger blades changed over, auger power head started and topped up with fresh gas/mix/stabilizer, get the camera and flasher charged up and probably sort out my gear.

I don't often go until the ice is thick enough to drive on (16"-18") because of the luxury camp we set up ...... just too hard to "rough it" ..... 2 trips with 2 guys pulling sleds over a mile is too much like work ....lol.

I find that it's very therapeutic / meditational sitting in my ice tent with the lights of the flasher and the hiss of the heater going, so yes, I'm looking forward to it. My shrink would approve!

I'm "new" to ice fishing since I was a kid - so I'm completely unprepared, but excited. That's gotta count for something.

I have most gear but really want to try a flasher this year.

If anyone sees a good deal on a flasher or any other gear maybe we should post up for guys looking. I think there is some last years stock that will be cleared as the new stuff is coming in over the next month or two

Bought a new ice fishing tent for the winter, and got a really cool auger set up. It's a manual auger, but had a buddy weld up an attachment that connects it to my 18v cordless drill, so I can be way more portable. We're looking at different propane heaters to take out with us, and hopefully hit up Gull, Pine, CVR and maybe even Badger this upcoming winter. Might be fun to do a fun family derby just for ****s n giggles, so we'll see how it goes. Definitely excited for hardwater, but would like to get out a few more times before freeze up!

Hopefully you guys can read this...this year's weather for2cast from the Almanac. Looks like a good recipe for ice. El Ninő be damned!

I just hope it is correct!

How can one think about ice. This is the best time of year for open water fishing. With the weather we have been having the river should stay open until December. Until then I'll be in the boat.

Was this not put out before El Nino came about? We need no snow in the foothills, get the deer population good

You know what I miss ?
What I miss is Ephemeroptera, Adoptiva, Blue Quill.
Havent seen one in the last 10 years.

BWO's are here but, Blue Quills are far and few.

Many may think that Ice holers are a bunch of drunkin fools but
little do they know we are simply fly fishers who want not
the season to end.

Because we love to fish so much.
And share in it all.
It's a wonderful thing.
