Default Lyman’s Deerstalker Rifle

I was recently offered one of these in stainless and was wondering as to quality of build of the Lyman product. Another that I wondered is if this rifle or similar with percussion cap firing requires registration or can still be sold from seller to buyer in Alberta without paper work. Thanks

My dad has been shooting his Great Plains from Lyman for prob better than 15 years, I have shot a variety of different brands and types of smoke poles over the last 18 years and without a doubt Lyman makes a good rifle in the muzzle loader. I would say you would have a good smoke pole with that choice, just keep in mind it's not an inline and can not do what they do. They can't be loaded up as hot as the new style.
They still need to be registered through the same means as a rifle.

Default Lyman front-stuffers

I'm on my 2nd Lyman (GPR). Its a kit waiting to built in .54. My 1st Lyman was a .50 GPR and shot prb just great. Th eDeerstalker is a good choice too, shorter with rubber butt pad and I believe you can instal differnt twist bbls, same as GPR. I have'nt killed anything with mine yet though, its still waiting its turn lol, I almost prefer th eGPR to my TC Hawken. But I love shooting them all.
Unless its a flintlock, you still have to register it like anyother firearm.
You won't be dissatisfied with the Deerstalker.

Thanks, I think that this one has been converted to a snapping matchlock (no percussion cap needed) making it a non-registerable reproduction.

In that case, you could easily switch it back to percussion?

Changing the action to caplock probably would require registration of the firearm I think Huntsman. Changing from snapping matchlock to cap would probably be about as easy as one could change from flintlock to percussion or back on some front loaders that I`ve seen though. Here`s one lock replacement system which is interchangeable;
