Decelerator or Limb Saver?

I'm going to finaly replace the factory recoil pads on a couple of my guns and was wondering what to go with. Both the Decelerator and Limb Saver seem highly reccomended, is either one better than the other?

After using both, I prefer the Decelerator.

The limbsaver absorbs more recoil,but it is not nearly as durable,and I find that it is actually too grippy when shouldering the gun.It just doesn't slip into place as easily as the Decelerator.

That is exactly my reasoning for preferring the Decelerator. It also shapes nicer and finishes better.

Any tips on shaping and finishing while I'm at it? If I understand it correctly I can freeze them and then use an angle grinder with a flapper disk on it. Correct me if I'm wrong.

if it gets that hard when its cold i wouldnt want to be using it in november.
not saying if you could do it or not. never installed one. but just seems weird to me.

The limbsaver actually isn't too bad to grind down, just follow the directions. It requires the use of a special jig, I just made one my self doesn't take too long. Biggest thing is while getting close to the final grinding stages spray WD40 on the grinding pad, it will made the pad look perfectly smooth. There is a video off the limbsaver site that shows you everything you need to know.

Not sure what you are putting it on but the fitted Limbsavers fit very well and I've really grown to like them. Recoil reduction is definitely superior to anything else I've tried.

Don't be to disappointed, but I think your McMillan comes with the Decelerator.

Actually my Kimber has a Decelerator on it and it's a great pad but I think the Limbsaver offers a bit more recoil reduction. Both great pads though.

The decelerator is a better pad if one is looking for a recoil pad that is firmer to offer more accuracy.
The limbsaver is a softer pad however, and will absorb more recoil.
I have noticed dramatic accuracy differences when using both.

I will explain this for those not knowing of what I speak.
The Limbsaver moves more when the firearm is shoulder, and does not let the gun sit as stable as the decelerator does.
This movement is transferred into the gun , and is noticable in the accuracy on the target.
A person must be able to decide whether or not the recoil reduction coupled with the accuracy loss is sufficient to use such a pad.
On a long rang varmint rig, I can live with the decelerator with a bit more recoil.
on a hunting rifle, I tend to use the Limbsaver, knowing it will not afford as much accuracy, but offers more recoil reduction.
Most of my shotguns have Limsavers on them.
Both are good pads, but I prefer to install decelerators.

but that still means that if the weather is below zero that the pad will freeze up solid. so how does it work in the field in november or way up north in the tundra?

id like to get a better pad myself for the .444 . but i was also considering getting one of the limbsaver shoulder pads. then i dont have to mess with the rifle. but then again i dont want to look like im wearing a diaper over my shoulder?

The pad actually doesn't get solid to tthe point where it will not absorb recoil, it will still do that.
it will be a bit harder , but not solid.

i was at the range the other day and got to try a buddys new tc encore. the recoil pad on those are awesome. makes a 30-06 feel more like a little shove rather than a sharp punch. im not sure what to compare it to, maybe a little more than a 243.

I have Limbsaver pads on all my Sako's and they did not required any custom fitting... same for Tikka's.
I like them a lot, especially on 338 Win Mag.

I do like my limbsaver, have never used a deccelerator. I bought the one made to fit my ruger. It was easy to install, the fit is good. It absorbs recoil very well.
Good luck with whatever you decide to go with.

I vote Limbsaver. Had them both. Recoil is for *******.

Ditto, except I haven't had any noticeable issues with durability as of yet. It would make sense though, as they are softer and less dense than the Decelerator.
