Default 522 Moose

Hey there; Does anyone have any helpful information about hunting Moose around the Spirit River area? We are from Medicine Hat area and are heading up to wmu522 in a couple weeks for moose. Neither one of us have really hunted up there before.

522 is on the east side of highway 2 from Woking north to the peace river

Almost forgot, get yourself a land owners map for Birch Hills County and MD of Spirt River no 133

I think those are the right ones

You got it right. You best bet to find moose is probably in the saddle hills on the south end of the unit, the birch hills run through the middle, and the peace river banks are on the north boarder. Smokey river runs along the east side. Lots of area to cover without having to track down landowners. Best of luck up there.

Thanks I see that Spirit River is west of 522, but it isn't that far to motel it from there, is it? Should we pick up some general elk tags for up there as well?

No, but it depends on what you want in lodgings, there is %$ck all in Spirit River or Rycroft. There is lodgings but not sure how they are becaue I have never stayed there.

Its 45min from GP to Rycroft, you could have a good breakfast in GP, then drive to hunt before light. There is a few spots off highway 733 north to hunt on the way to Wanham you could try. I see gut piles there every year.

Never hunted elk up there, but have seen cows, its hit or miss depends on what part of the river valley they are coming from.

What moose tags do you have antlerless and calf moose?

Never had to call for moose since i've hunted up here, been last 6 or so years. But it doesn't hurt if you plan on staying within a certain area for a couple days.
