Healthcare improvements are definitely a key concern for people.

Structured, strategic, transparent and well thought out measured approach is key.

It does seem the easiest targets would be to remove any upper management bloat.

Shore up front lines with enough staff to reduce over working stress loads

Speed up surgical wait list lines. My understanding is that there are empty surgical rooms… so why not contract in some top US surgeons to strategically target some surgery wait list issues like hip and knee transplants.

Heard from staff that a lot of time is being used up in hospitals by drug addicts either over dosing or looking for prescriptions. Some money needs to go towards addressing this. I’d say re-introducing consequences for drug use such as jail to put people there instead of hospitals. In other words rather than enable open drug use… punish in a prison environment with programs to kick the addiction.
You don't really need any more surgeons (surgeons will basically operate 24/7 if you give them OR time). You need beds/staff to recover the patients post op. As they say "a chain is only as strong as the weakest link" and a lot of those beds are currently full.......
All the backed up cardiac surgeries during the covid peaks weren't due to lack of surgeons. It many cases it was the lack of perfusionists as they were tied up in the ICU's with all the covid patients on ECMO. You can't be in two places at once.

The surgeries with the longest wait times generally require little to no recovery space. Knees, shoulders, hernias have long waits and often release patients the next day. The backlogs are systemic and could be easily reduced by allowing private clinics to do the work.

I think a new private ortho surgical clinic just opened in Edmonton this week if I’m not mistaken. I agree they have the potential to make a difference.

I can’t say this applies everywhere but the issue in the places my wife has worked is people pulling no shows with BS excuses and BS leave of absence. There is a lack of accountability when it comes to crap employees. This often creates short handed situations and causes people to cover on OT or get mandated to OT. If my memory is correct they also get paid more if mandated

I also see theses no shows and lack of accountability at my work too and it is a non union job. So this is not just an AHS issue

As for your last paragraph I do believe there is a lot of people who waste our healthcare resources and change is needed to address this. I don’t know if I would support your suggestions but change is needed. This is a big issue in Canada in my opinion
If you really want the truth....ask your wife who she tag teams “coordinates” her sick days off with.

Really??? Are you assuming this person has a lack of integrity based on them being a nurse?

Edmonton placed 2nd. Wow. What city is on the bottom of the list? I surely won't hang out there. Edmonton's hospitals have a lot to be desired.
And what city was first?

Trust me my wife doesn’t hide a thing and I actually have to tell her I don’t want to hear work talk

My wife actually just banks her overtime days and uses them.

Hamilton 1, Edmonton 2, Calgary 3, so two out of the top three in Alberta.

I blame the media for all this, they just had to run and spew out everyday that there was a children's pain reliever shortage sending every parent into panic mode and hoarding medicine. Half the people wouldn't be at the hospital if they could just treat there kids fever at home but this is where we are now.

Let’s start with the bad news first. Drivers in Canada’s westernmost province pay the highest insurance rates in Canada, averaging just over $1,800 a year. That’s up over $700 since 2015 – a whopping 63% increase in less than five years! Unlike other provinces, BC’s insurance is run by a crown corporation (ICBC), so if you don’t like those terms, tough stuff because it’s the only game in town.*
In B.C.You are forced to purchase the government run insurance, which has gone up 63% over five years. And which party has been in power for those last five years? And when Saskatchewan had an NDP government, they also implemented mandatory government run auto insurance, and while the NDP was in charge, Saskatchewan had higher insurance rates than Alberta. So don't expect the NDP to decrease insurance rates, if they are elected.

And this is another reason why the dippers won’t win. Remember, a vote for the NDP is a vote for him:

The point was more about the UCP opting to not renew the insurance increase cap in 2019 after the NDP brought it in. Instead, choosing to form the AIRB (staffed entirely by former insurance co execs) to oversee and approve increases—yup, they definitely won’t be industry friendly to all their former friends and coworkers.

My insurance company in 2018 only had an EBITDA of over $800,000,000. They definitely needed that cap lifted more than you or I needed that money in our pockets.

Classy response right here. Thanks!

If you vote NDP, you are supporting the firearms bans, and Notley would be kissing Trudeau's butt , like she did before , so she would have no issue using provincial funds to go around enforcing the bans.

The problem with NDP/Notley is what will she do once elected?

Last time around she was determined to remake Alberta.

Most of which she never campaigned on.

Sask still has mandatory gov’t insurance despite the NDP not being in power here almost as long as my kid who will graduate this year has been alive. Additional insurance may be purchased privately. I’m pretty sure we’re cheaper than you but that fact is not a bragging point of our current leadership.

I don’t know or really care who will win in AB bit i think it’ll come down to well off vs not well off with some Jesus thrown in the mix.

When you were under NDP rule, Alberta was much cheaper than Saskatchewan, if you were still under NDP rule, that situation would likely still exist. I am originally from Saskatchewan,, I lived there when the NDP destroyed the potash industry, and prevented the development of the oilsands in Saskatchewan. Back then Saskatchewan was not a have province, but they have been since they voted out the ndp.

Speculating on “what if someone else was in charge of insurance “ in regards to what is cheaper is pointless because it’s a guess, nothing more.

Ignoring commodity prices in regards to anyone becoming a”have” province is extremely partisan.

And I’m pretty sure Grant Devine hurt Sask potash quite a bit too. Lol

I spent an entire childhood listening to one side of the family debate the other in C vs NDP debates. Lol

Judging by your comments in the current political threads, why do I doubt that?

I wouldn't doubt anything west of hwy's 22/40 is on the chopping block for all hunting, not just sheep.
They'll just start closing huge tracts of land or turn them into "parks".

Agree 100 %. Being this is a site for outdoorsmen and considering the current political climate with regards to the ever increasing firearms restrictions by the Turd and his ilk, it's mind boggling how anyone would support the NDP. Given the comments by some here and in other threads there appears to be more than you would think.

I don’t know, maybe you read far too much into somebody that makes mention of certain things and take them as personal against your political allegiances.

Just an idea.

Nah, nothing personal at all. I just enjoy the study of human nature.
Many claim to be 'centrist' or 'non-political', but make comments that totally contradict this. Most don't even know they're actually fairly polarized.
I find it interesting.

Personally, however, I'm going to guess this isn't your first handle on the forum.

Sadly, the way society is going, more and more people don't want to earn their living, they want to live off of government handouts, that someone else worked to pay for. As long as that trend continues, there will be support for socialism.

Actually it is my first handle so you’d be wrong personally. RV would be where I get my Mail. Feel free to pm me for my name and Instagram handle if you wish to desire to see some pretty good outdoor related photos. I’d think a scroll through that would change your idea that I’m some lefty troll. Lol.
Both left and right side politics have many flaws right now. I also enjoy the study of human nature, I find it amazing how partisanship blinds some to flaws. Non partisan is not non political. It’s amazing how a farmer dad and nurse mom can give you some different perspectives.

A vote for the NDP is a vote for less hunting, fishing, and shooting.

It’s really that simple.

Rachel will shutdown west of Rocky like she did in Castle, so kiss the quadding, camping, and hunting goodbye around Abraham Lake and down the Trunk Rd.
