I honestly don't care if the locals support the mine. Many, though far from all, will sell theirsouls for a job or tax breaks. They are willing to poison rivers to produce coal that goes to China, who then pollute the earth further burning it. We don't need coal in Canada so why the hell would we poison our fresh water to produce it for China, who we shouldn't be dealing with anyhow. They are clearly intent on ruling the world and ruining our countries doesn't bother them at all.

Lannie’s concerns are valid. This area has a very tough time not keeping young adults b/c you’d need to be a pretty good entrepreneur or effective small business owner to make a decent living here.
Teck gives excellent paying jobs to regular folks and something is needed.

There’s a little lack of creativity here… this place has a tonne of potential.
Here’s one…. There’s a huge empty warehouse in sentinel. Wind goes hard there. A guy could prolly finance the building of a semi wind generated server farm there (air is dry, temps are cool.. good conditions for a server farm) easy link in access to Supernet…..use the wind power angle for marketing and maybe power…

Financing might take a bit…. But it’s totally doable here.

20-30 jobs right there…..

We have one of the purest water aquifers here…. Bottled water anyone??? Geeze they do it in Nanton!!! Why ???

We just went through this in our county, although a different industry.

Not enough research, no proven risk mitigation. I am very happy that one of our resident teachers has the ability to reason his way through controversy.

The long term damage has not been proven manageable by Benga, no mine, it's really that simple!

Let’s try a measured approach here…. Show me how research on selenium mitigation measures will work and be successful and sustainable…. And I’m

Or just whine about rich city folks and their ‘dang mannipulashins’ …..

Lol

Nice retort. Stick to ‘no comment’ perhaps

‘I’m rich’. That’s hilarious and tonnes of guyes here that know me are chuckling at that.

What’s your stance on the selenium mitigation plan?

Please explain…

Bessie

Ignore him. Seems like many think living somewhere for r0 years makes them some kind of expert. Ask the people that lived their whole lives on love canal, Three mile island, Chernobyl or Fukushima. Ask the guys that worked underground for generations and died of black lung. The guys that spent their lives and died from asbestos mining. They were all local experts too.

How many millions have died from ground water contamination and had zero idea of what was killing them and their families.

Would you rather have a Doctor that was raised, trained and lived his whole life in Fernie, or would you prefer your doctor to be trained at a large university in Edmonton and then moved to Fernie.

We dont need to wreck the limited mountain areas and the water sheds of Alberta for just a few jobs!

And this issue affects way more than just the pass residents.

My comment had nothing to do with selenium.. but with entitle rich folk moving out to the country and telling others how to live.... the fact that you and others missed that point says way more about you then it does me.

But you have a nice day. Maybe turn on a few meditation tapes and calm down boys.

Really your comment had not much relevance anywhere. You just came here to insult…. Ok.

You allegedly lived here 5 years more than me. Now u live in the city.

Again… I invite you to give me your take on the selenium mitigation. Do you see it as an effective plan? Or do you see the risk for 25 years worth of employment for 300 people worth it?

If I say please will you…?

I guess in yours and others world if you don't agree with the herd then off with their heads. LOL this forum use to have a general conversation, now it is just a few, brow beating those who may disagree with their ideas.

Sigh…. And if you read my comments you’d know that the vast majority of the protests against are…. Local folks.

Pot… kettle….

Pretty irrelevant initial post quite frankly

And oh…. China….? They certainly weren’t buying coal from us ….. ever during those times.

Pretty sure it ain’t.

Also

Talk to me about your position on selenium contamination? You cool with the lack of any real way to mitigate the process?

3 wells for human consumption are apparently contaminated…. Thoughts on that?

Have you fished the Elk lately? Do you like them fish numbers now?

Itll prolly be Gold creek first, then the Crow….

Add the selenium to the Crow’s whirling disease troubles….. that should really do a number on the trout.

Show me proof of a provable mitigation system for the contamination…. And I’ll support the mine just fine.
I am saying accountable because they are using their own name. I never mentioned anybody being pro or anti mining in the Pass. It's the same people arguing on here on every topic that comes up and nothing has ever been changed or even mildly improved because of it. I suggested another outlet that may be worth checking out that would give the local heartbeat on this issue.
Take a break from posting and you will feel better.

Who did you insult? Really? You throw the 'citiot' word around pretty casually, you generalize and disparage people for where they live, as though that is a measure of their character and intelligence. Pretty hard to have a conversation where you come out of the gate already disqualifying all the stupid people who aren't you, and have not lived and done what you have.

Bessie has repeatedly and politely asked a valid question regarding mitigation of selenium. It is a very valid concern. Nobody has answered him yet. I don't live there (but I do live in a city, about the same size as the Hat, so I'm probably an idiot too), but I sure as hell would want to see the effective plan to make sure the waterways weren't poisoned before I'd sign on. I get people need jobs, and the economy is tough, but Jesus wept, we have to stop destroying the environment and poisoning our kids and grandkids at some point too.
